A Podcast Host Got Roasted by Swifties After Filming Taylor Swift at the ‘Toy Story 5’ Premiere
Maggie Ekberg
There’s a specific kind of internet fame nobody asks for, the kind where you do one normal thing in front of a celebrity and a thousand strangers decide you’ve committed a crime. Alisha Marie just lived it.
On the latest Pretty Basic, she walks co-host Remi Cruz through her genuinely unhinged night at the Toy Story 5 premiere, which somehow turned into the closest she’s ever been to Taylor Swift and a full-blown Swiftie pile-on.
When the curtain went up
The night tipped its hand before the movie even started. “They let us have our phone surprisingly,” Alisha says, when normally they “take it and like put it in a box.” As Remi puts it, “that’s cuz they knew something was happening.”
They were right. After the credits rolled, the screen went black and a curtain behind it lifted. Taylor was sitting at a piano. “I have chills already,” Alisha says. “The room screamed,” and then, because this was a theater full of industry people and not a stadium of fans, “you could hear a pin drop the whole time she’s performing.” By her account, it was Taylor’s first performance since the Eras Tour wrapped, which made an already surreal night feel impossible.
And it kept going. A second curtain opened to reveal Randy Newman at another piano, and the two of them performed “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” together. Hearing his voice live undid her. “I started sobbing,” Alisha says. “It was insane just hearing him talk and then them both performing.” She and her sister, in her words, were “a wreck.”
The ring heard ’round TikTok
Here’s where it turns. Alisha was sitting three rows back, close enough to clock Taylor’s dress, her dad, and one very large engagement ring catching the light. So she did what any of us would do with a phone in hand. She filmed a quick TikTok zooming in on the ring, treated it like a fun little bit, and went to bed.

She woke up to 800,000 views. “I’m like, oh, sh*t I forgot the impact,” she says, realizing a beat too late that a casual premiere clip had become a whole thing.
Swifties enter the chat
The comments came in hot, all some version of how dare you care about the ring when Taylor Swift is right in front of you. Alisha reads a few on the episode, including one that landed with 1,300 likes: “Taylor Swift is in front of you and that’s the first thing you remember.” She was more amused than offended: “Ok, suck it, Claire. It’s funny. Taylor would laugh herself. It’s a pretty ring. Who cares?”
The funniest part is that the same video did totally different numbers depending on where it lived. On Instagram, people thought it was hilarious. On TikTok, she “hit the wrong algorithm,” Remi points out, and the knives came out.
Not bad, all things considered
If there’s a lesson buried in here, it’s a short list of how to handle accidentally finding yourself near one of the most famous women alive:
- Maybe skip the ring zoom-in, since the internet has decided that’s a personal attack
- Remember the same post can charm one platform and enrage another, so brace for both
- If the Swifties come for you, Alisha’s move is to own it and laugh, which Remi calls “a beautiful thing”
The thing is, her reaction was completely normal. You get unexpectedly close to a megastar and, naturally, your inner Nancy Drew comes out. Alisha’s also done excusing the haters these days. She used to assume mean comments came from kids, “but like now that I’m older, I’m like, oh, you could be a full adult saying this to me.”
By the end she’s mostly delighted—three rows from a surprise Taylor Swift concert, a Randy Newman duet she’ll never forget, and a viral moment with a side of beef. Not a bad night, even with Claire in the comments.
