Maggie Ekberg
If you’ve ever wondered which archangel to call on when you’re stressed, heartbroken, stuck in your career, or just need the universe to come through for you, this is the episode to bookmark.
On Dear Gabby, host Gabrielle Bernstein sits down with bestselling author and angel communicator Radleigh Valentine to break down exactly who the archangels are, what each one specializes in, and how to actually communicate with them in your daily life.
Valentine is a former CPA turned spiritual teacher who has created over 15 oracle and tarot decks and is known for making the spiritual realm feel accessible and practical. Whether you’re brand new to working with angels or you’ve been in your spiritual era for a while, this guide has you covered.
The Archangel Cheat Sheet Every Spiritual Girly Needs Bookmarked
Archangel Michael—Protection, safety, and life purpose
Color: Sapphire blue
Michael is the one you call when you need to feel safe, protected, or clear on your path. “It’s hard to feel safe if you don’t know what it is that you are supposed to be chasing in this life,” Valentine explains. He’s also the archangel who can help you cut ties with people or patterns that need to go.
Call on Michael when you need to:
- Feel protected during a scary or uncertain time
- Get clarity on your life purpose or next move
- Sever a toxic connection or cut energetic cords
- Clear fear that’s blocking your path
Archangel Gabriel—Creativity, motivation, and communication
Color: Copper
Gabriel carries a feminine energy and is the archangel you want when you need to express yourself clearly or tap into your creative flow. “When we think about feminine energy, we might think about things like giving birth and creativity and being able to communicate in a beautiful way,” Valentine says. “These are all things that are Gabriel.”
Call on Gabriel when you need to:
- Have a difficult conversation with compassion and clarity
- Get motivated on a creative project
- Communicate your boundaries effectively
- Find the words when you don’t know what to say
Archangel Ariel—Abundance, manifestation, and courage
Color: Pale pink
Ariel is the archangel of nature, abundance, and manifestation, and she also brings courage. Valentine describes her as “the least angely of the angels” and says there’s even historical speculation that “she’s part fairy.” She’s the one you call when you need to manifest something tangible or find the courage to go after it.
Call on Ariel when you need to:
- Manifest financial abundance or career opportunities
- Find the inner courage to make a big life change
- Feel supported during a transition that requires financial risk
- Reconnect with nature as a grounding practice
Archangel Chamuel—Personal peace and healing relationships
Color: Pale green
Chamuel gets minimized a lot as the “help me find my car keys” angel, but Valentine says his real power is much deeper. “I think of Chamuel as literally being the counselor of the angelic realm,” he explains. “If you don’t do the work, you’re not going to have the peace.” He’s the archangel of personal and global peace, and the one to call when your inner world feels chaotic.
Call on Chamuel when you need to:
- Find peace when your mind won’t stop spiraling
- Feel love for yourself when you’re struggling with self-worth
- Create calm during a season of uncertainty
- Heal from a situation that’s left you emotionally unsettled
Archangel Raphael—Physical healing
Color: Emerald green
Raphael is the go-to for physical healing. “He is the energy that we’re going to call on when we feel like we have physical discomfort or physical disease,” Valentine says. “A lot of the archangels have what I call side gigs and so he’s also considered the archangel of travel and he’s also a bit of a matchmaker, too.”
Call on Raphael when you need to:
- Support your body through illness or physical recovery
- Feel aligned and in tune with what your body needs
- Safe travels on a trip
- A little divine matchmaking energy
Archangel Uriel—Emotional healing and transformation
Color: Golden glitter
Uriel is the archangel of epiphany. “That epiphany leans into emotional healing,” Valentine explains. “Not the physical healing, [but] the emotional healing that allows us to transform our lives—to bring true transformation in. And so he can be a very powerful ally for us.”
Call on Uriel when you need to:
- Process and heal from emotional pain
- Experience a breakthrough or major life transformation
- See a situation from a completely new perspective
- Let go of an old version of yourself to step into the next one
Archangel Raguel—Harmony in relationships
Color: Pale blue
Raguel is the archangel of friendship whose name means “the friend of God.” He brings harmony to relationships in discord, helps lower the temperature when things have gone off the rails, and connects you with the right people. “He might bring you the perfect couple’s counselor. He might bring you the perfect other person,” Valentine says.
Call on Raguel when you need to:
- Heal a friendship or romantic relationship that’s in conflict
- Attract love through trusted connections rather than apps
- Find the right therapist, mentor, or support person
- Create peace between two people who can’t seem to communicate
Archangel Jophiel—Faith and positive thinking
Color: Fuchsia pink
Jophiel’s name means “the beauty of God” and she is literally faith embodied in divine energy. Valentine says she helps fix our thought patterns so we stop spiraling into the same negative stories. “Once we’ve severed our connections to old thoughts, we don’t want to reconnect to them. And so she will guide us,” he explains. People often smell roses when Jophiel is around.
Call on Jophiel when you need to:
- Break a negative thought pattern that keeps coming back
- Rebuild faith after a setback
- Shift your mindset from scarcity to abundance
- Stop telling yourself the same limiting story on repeat
One more thing: you don’t have to have it together to ask for help
Valentine and Bernstein both emphasize that you don’t need to be in a good headspace to call on your archangels. There are two ways to pray to them. One is gratitude, as if it’s already happened, like “Thank you, Archangel Uriel, for providing me the emotional healing that will present to me the perfect person in my life.” The other is raw honesty. “I am so desperately tired of feeling alone. Please send me somebody,” Valentine offers as an example. Both are valid. Both are heard.
“We are no longer afraid to say we need help,” Bernstein adds. “We don’t have to be afraid to say that we’re blocked. We don’t have to be afraid to be in fear. We don’t have to be afraid to say we do not have it all together. In fact, it’s worse to override that. It’s worse to sprinkle some sugar on top of it. It’s better to bring it to your angels for help and healing and to alchemize that energy for you rather than reinforcing that energy by ignoring it and pushing it down, because it’s not going anywhere without the help.”
