Bruno Mars broke the internet—again—on July 14, the morning after he crashed BLACKPINK’s sold-out Los Angeles show to sing “APT.” with Rosé. He sprinted through confetti, posted the video, and declared he’s “almost out of debt.” The line was pure comedy gold for fans who remember March 2024, when a NewsNation report claimed the star owed MGM Resorts more than $50 million from high-stakes gambling during his Park MGM residency.

Taylor Strecker covered it on Taste of Taylor, but we had some of our own thoughts, too.

Bruno Mars rumor mill started in Las Vegas

The NewsNation story wasn’t just idle chatter; it painted Mars as a lounge-singer-turned-high-roller who supposedly gambled away his residency earnings. A source even said MGM “basically own[ed]” him. Cue hundreds of think-pieces about artists, casinos, and creative freedom.

Mars ignored the hysteria for months. When the Las Vegas Review-Journal pressed him, he grinned: “Absolutely not! I love the lore that I am a Las Vegas lounge singer in debt to the mob. I can work with that.” Strecker would likely approve of the bit. Her cohost Matt Ryan even jokes, “Boom. Problem solved” whenever a narrative needs a quick fix.

Bruno Mars and MGM publicly stay besties

MGM Resorts responded to the debt rumors almost as fast as they spread: “Any speculation otherwise is completely false; he has no debt with MGM.” The company praised its “longstanding” partnership with the Grammy magnet and later rolled out the Pinky Ring lounge at Bellagio, branded top to tail in Mars’ retro-Vegas aesthetic.

The singer doubles down on the joke whenever streaming numbers rise. After becoming the first artist to hit 150 million monthly Spotify listener,s he wrote, “Keep streaming! I’ll be out of debt in no time!” If you hear Strecker’s voice saying, “Are you ready for it, Ben?” every time Mars posts, you’re not alone.

So, is Bruno Mars actually in debt?

With MGM’s statement on record and Mars’ Instagram wink now immortal, the only thing left is the music. He has dates booked at Dolby Live in August and September 2025, and insiders hint at more collaborative drops following that viral Rosé cameo.

So—is Bruno Mars really “finally (almost) out of debt”? The best answer comes from Strecker’s playbook. She opens, “We have a show,” keeps listeners chasing breadcrumbs, then signs off with a grin. Mars does the same—swapping podcast studios for SoFi Stadium lasers. Either way, the audience gets the spectacle it came for.

For now, fans can stream “24K Magic,” grab a Bellagio cocktail, and watch the comment count climb. If the debt gag earns another million likes, Mars might declare himself completely flush. And knowing Strecker, she’ll be ready with a deep dive the moment he does—because, in her words, “I can’t believe it’s taken me so long” to spill the tea.

Bruno Mars has another issue. It is the imposters flooding social media platforms.Do he have a response or joke for that? Is that hurting him or helping him? Let’s see if he would address that in a concert.
