About the Role

The Head of Originals will create and execute a content strategy while leading development, co-productions, current production, and acquisitions of all Dear Media content to grow the audience and build IP franchises that support brand and business objectives. Reporting directly to the CEO and partnering with the Head of Talent, this role will serve as a member of the Dear Media leadership team and contribute to the overall strategic direction of the business.

What You’ll Do:

  • Help develop a compelling original content vision for Dear Media, informed by a deep understanding of current trends and changing competitive landscape among Millennial and Gen Z females
  • Work with the leadership team to create an original content strategy that ties directly to the overall business strategy, with clear content objectives and success measures
  • Lead development, co-production, and current production efforts for Dear Media originals managing a strong slate of audio-first projects that meet brand, performance, and business objectives
  • Work closely with the Head of Talent to leverage relationships in the creative community and attract top-tier talent to Dear Media, including show creators, writers, and producers
  • Build a roster of talent and identify new ideas, projects, and potential co-productions
  • Oversee the creative development and production of Dear Media current series, driving distinct creative within agreed editorial positioning, project goals, timelines, and budgets
  • Identify acquisitions and licensing opportunities that map to the Dear Media content strategy and brand promise
  • Maintain relationships with external content producers & distributors to ensure the best content acquisition opportunities
  • Work collaboratively with Business, Finance, Marketing, Digital Product & Technology, Production Operations, and others to shape and realize the overall strategic plans for Dear Media content
  • Manage development, production, and acquisitions budgets
  • Other projects, tasks, and initiatives as required

What You Have:

  • Proven expertise and experience supervising various projects on a young, female-focused development slate with a deep understanding of the content development process and exceptional storytelling
  • Strong track record of identifying unique ideas and translating them into successful programming
  • Experience managing and launching a large number of pitches to be developed into show series for a studio/production house, radio/podcasting, network/streaming service, or other media business
  • Experience in talent outreach across the industry
  • Supervisory abilities across multiple projects and initiatives both with internal teams and external collaborators and co-production partners
  • Experience developing both original IP and shows based on existing properties
  • Experience managing or developing properties that extend into other lines of business
  • Experience working with licensing partners is a plus
  • Experience in both scripted and unscripted projects
  • Strong relationships with key players in the industry
  • Strong knowledge and passion for female-focused media; familiarity with relevant programming on all leading media platforms
  • Proven knowledge of television, publishing, audio, music, digital, and pop culture, trends
