Chloe Kim Was Ready to Be Done With Dating—Then Myles Garrett Entered the Chat

Chloe Kim has spent most of her life doing things under a lot of pressure. Things like competing on the world stage, winning Olympic medals, and becoming one of the most recognizable athletes in winter sports came easy to her. But when it came to dating? That part of her life wasn’t feeling nearly as successful.
While chatting on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, the three-time Olympic medalist admitted there was a point where she was honestly ready to throw in the towel on relationships altogether. She joked that she might just stay single forever and figure out the whole “having kids” thing on her own.
Then a friend casually brought up someone she hadn’t really considered before: NFL star Myles Garrett.
What started as a quick introduction turned into something a lot more real. Now, more than a year later, Kim says the relationship feels surprisingly easy.
Kim thought she was done with dating
At one point, Kim says she was so frustrated with dating that she had basically decided she was over it. While talking with a friend, she remembers venting about how exhausting the whole experience had started to feel. “I was like, I can’t date anymore, like, I’m done,” Kim says. “I’m just gonna be single forever…I was being so dramatic. I was like, ‘I’m gonna get a sperm donor,’ like, I don’t need a man.”
Part of that mindset came from feeling like dating was complicated by the life she already had. As one of the most successful athletes in her sport, Kim had built an impressive career and independence at a young age, something she admits didn’t always translate easily into relationships.
“I wanted somebody that’s tall, handsome, kind…and equally as successful as me, if not more,” she explains. “I just wanted someone who wouldn’t be intimidated by me and my success.”
The FaceTime intro that started everything
That’s when a mutual friend decided to play matchmaker. While Kim was venting about her love life, he suggested someone she hadn’t thought about before. Garrett. At first, Kim says she wasn’t exactly convinced. “I was like, OK, like I’ll talk to him real quick,” she says, explaining that the introduction happened casually over FaceTime while Garrett was on vacation in Cabo.
The conversation itself was quick and low-pressure. “It was so quick,” Kim recalls. “Like, ‘Hey, what’s up?’ …super small talk.” She assumed that would probably be the end of it. But later that day, after Kim finished practice, her phone buzzed with a text. “After practice, he texted me. He’s like, ‘Hey, how did it go? It’s Myles.’” Her reaction surprised even her. “I was like, do I have really low standards or was that sweet?”
Why Garrett feels different from anyone she’s dated before
From there, the connection grew pretty naturally. Kim says Garrett kept the conversation going from the start, checking in regularly and making an effort to stay in touch. “And he’s texted me every day since then,” she says, explaining that the consistency quickly stood out.
When the two finally met in person during a trip to Dallas, Kim brought her best friend along just in case things felt awkward. Instead, the weekend ended up confirming that there was something real between them. Now more than a year into their relationship, Kim says the biggest difference is how effortless it feels. “It’s so easy with him,” she shares. “If you’re around us, we’re always giggling…we have all these inside jokes.”
At the end of the day, she says it feels less like dating and more like being with someone who genuinely gets her. “I found my best friend.”
