Hot Girl Hacks Only: 8 Tips the Internet Finally Stopped Gatekeeping
Maggie Ekberg
On Gals on the Go, hosts Brooke Miccio and Danielle Carolan asked their audience one simple question: what are you gatekeeping? And the girlies delivered.
From money hacks to beauty secrets to things you probably do but would never say out loud, the submissions were unhinged, helpful, and extremely real. Here are the best ones.
Lotion after every single shower
Sounds obvious, but most people skip it. Miccio has been locking in moisture after every shower and says her skin has never been softer. The only downside? She woke up sweating two nights in a row from the extra layer. “I really think it was because it traps in the moisture,” she says. Worth it though.
Donate plasma for quick cash (and help people while you’re at it)
Both hosts confirm it was massive at UGA where there was a plasma center right downtown. “People who didn’t have jobs and needed quick cash” had their routine, their playlist, and walked out with money. Carolan says the money went far, too. “You could go donate plasma and drink for like a few weeks.” Look into plasma labs near you. It’s one of the few side hustles that literally saves lives.
Witch hazel on your crevices after you shower
Armpits, back of the knees, elbow creases, all the spots that get funky. Wipe them down with witch hazel after you shower and you apparently won’t stink. Carolan was especially sold on this one because she says after a spray tan, “my pits smell for days. Like two days of smelling bad no matter how many showers I take.” So now everyone knows.
Courtesy flush the second it hits the water
“The second your number two hits the water, flush her,” one listener wrote. No matches, no Poo-Pourri needed. “Like, have that flusher ready,” Carolan says. Sometimes the simplest hacks are the most powerful.
Use your boyfriend’s Manscaped for down there
One listener called it “literally life-changing.” Carolan confirms that Manscaped has expanded way beyond its original purpose and girls on TikTok are now posting electric razor content left and right. Miccio admits she only knew about it as a nose trimmer for the longest time. “I thought it was for your face,” she says. Turns out it’s for a lot more than your face and apparently everyone knew except her.
AMC A-List is a steal if you see two movies a month
About $20 a month for unlimited screenings. Both hosts agree it pays for itself after two trips and actually pushes you to get out of the house and into a theater more often. The only catch according to Miccio: “I spend all the money on popcorn.” So you save on tickets and blow it all at the concession stand. Balance.
Child’s pose is the best position to pass trapped gas
Someone came in hot with this tip and stood firmly behind it. “I don’t care. I said what I said.” Carolan swears by laying on her left side while Miccio says her trapped gas situation is “a little more complex” than just one pose. But honestly if you’re marinating on the couch after dinner feeling like a balloon animal, just get on the floor and try a child’s pose—knees bent, torso folded forward, forehead down. At worst, nothing happens. At best, sweet, sweet relief. Either way, you’re horizontal, and that’s never a bad thing.
Wash your hair as often as you need to
One listener said washing daily changed her life and both hosts agree the “train your hair to go longer” advice doesn’t work for everyone. Miccio says when she wears her hair natural, “it only looks good for one day” and by the next morning it’s a disaster. Carolan feels the same. Do what works for your hair and stop feeling guilty about it.
