Focus on What Is Working in Your Career—and You Might Just Manifest Your Dream Job
Stephanie Taylor
Are you stuck in a job you hate? We have all been there before—begrudgingly working a 9-to-5 while daydreaming about a career that truly lights our souls on fire. It’s not naive or wishful thinking to believe that you can love the work you do. You can manifest your dream job.
Gabby Bernstein, host of Dear Gabby, is living proof, as she has created a life and a career that she truly loves. She is a New York Times bestselling author, motivational speaker, and spiritual teacher and has written 10 spiritual self-help books over the years. She has also worked in the personal coaching and motivational speaking industry for 20 years. In a recent episode of her show, she shares the five-step spiritual method she used to create a career beyond her wildest dreams and how you can do it, too.
She shares why gratitude for your current role is critical, how to embody your future self right now, and why rejection is actually a blessing in disguise. It’s time to shift your energy, transform setbacks into opportunities, manifest your dream job and attract the opportunities you truly desire.
1. Appreciate what you have right now.
Yes, be grateful for your current employment. It might sound crazy, but Bernstein says it does actually help to manifest your dream job. “When we are grateful for what we have, we manifest more of what we want,” she explains. “When we have gratitude for what is already in front of us, we can show up for the current circumstances with better energy and higher vibes.”
So think about what you can be grateful for right now. Maybe it’s the coworker who always says, “Good morning!” Perhaps, it’s the nice paycheck or the connections the job provides. It might even just be your 30-minute break where you get to walk to your favorite coffee shop.
Bernstein says when you focus on the aspects of your work you are grateful for, you enter a higher vibrational state—the energy of appreciation. “Stop thinking about being mad about your current circumstances is getting you out of your current circumstances,” she says. “That ain’t happening. Being in alignment with and appreciative of what is thriving is the fastest way to manifest more of what you do want.”
2. Become your future self in your career.
Picture this: What does your future self working in your dream job look like? What does your ideal career path look and feel like? Bernstein says you must do something daily that is aligned with your dream job to get there.
If you want to be a graphic designer, Bernstein encourages you to make posters for your friend’s local band. To become a social media manager, she suggests growing your own social media following and creating great content for yourself. If you want to be a motivational speaker, then start speaking at events or posting videos of short, motivational sound bites on social media.
“Stop waiting to be picked, and start becoming your future self,” Bernstein says. “Walk the walk. Talk the talk. Do the work and do it for free for a period of time.” This way you are living out your dream job and putting yourself in the act of living it, breathing it, and doing the work you love. “Then you start believing it,” Bernstein explains. “We manifest what we believe.”
3. Rejection is protection.
If you don’t get that job that you thought was the holy grail of jobs, pause and take time to be grateful. Bernstein encourages you to say, “Thank you universe for releasing me from the thing I thought I wanted so that I can clear space for what is for my highest good.” Positive self-talk can help re-wire old thought patterns.
When you are applying for a job and it doesn’t land the way you hoped, Bernstein says it’s because there’s something better on the way. If you want to manifest your dream job, you have to understand that rejection can be protection. “If you can make that mental shift, you will have so much more momentum as you seek new employment,” she explains. “Trust what is meant for you will find you.”
4. Have more fun.
To manifest your dream job, it starts with the vibes you are giving off. Elevate your energy and bring positivity into every room you enter. It starts with having more fun in what you do. Bernstein says that joy sends out a vibration that attracts the people and things you want into your life.
“Think about the fun you can have in the work you do,” she says. “If it’s not fun, then try to bring some joy to it by cracking a joke with a coworker, leaning into something creative about your work, or prioritizing more work-life balance.”
5. Be of service in the job you have.
Bernstein says that if you do this one thing, you will excel in your current job and once you manifest your dream job, this is how you will keep it. The secret? Find out the top three to five things your employer needs and do whatever it takes to make that happen.
“Service energy excels you in the career that you have,” Bernstein says. “That also goes for the jobs you don’t like. Even if you hate the job, go find ways to make sure your employer feels seen and served.”
