Internet Trends We’re Loving, Loathing, and Side-Eyeing Right Now
Jane LaCroix
Internet trends are evolving faster than your TikTok algorithm can refresh. From buzzy wellness hacks and nostalgic aesthetics to café concepts and controversial beauty habits, what’s hot online one week can feel outdated the next. And it’s okay to admit it’s a little overwhelming. That’s the Point hosts Kristin Johns and Jon Volk decided to weigh in on the viral moments dominating their feeds.
In a playful round of “smash or pass,” the duo breaks down today’s most talked-about trends—sharing their honest takes on what’s worth the hype and what’s better left behind.
Ahead, their definitive yay-or-nay guide to the internet’s latest obsessions.
Coconut water matcha cloud
✗ Pass
It’s giving “cool café menu,” but only if you like coconut water. Kristin loves it, but Jon immediately shuts it down after admitting he didn’t know what it was—so this one’s very taste-dependent. If coconut water isn’t your thing, it’s a hard no. “For me, it’s a no, it sucks,” Jon bluntly states.
Vibration plates
✓ Smash…maybe
Weird? Yes. Effective? Maybe. Kristin says it made their whole body itchy and numb (not exactly a glowing review), but still leaned in because of the supposed benefits—think lymphatic drainage and muscle recovery. The jury’s still out, but curiosity wins here.
Coffee windows
✓ Smash
Tiny window, minimal interaction, cute experience—it’s a yes for both hosts. There’s something charming (and efficient) about grabbing your drink without the whole café ordeal. “I kind of like it,” Jon says. “It gives a different experience.” Kristin agrees wholeheartedly: “I love it. Minimize human interactions at all costs.”
Camo everything
✓ Smash
Camo hats, pants, shirts…it’s officially back, and they’re into it. “Yeah, well, I’m wearing it, so I say love,” Jon says. Kristin agrees, “I actually love it. I want a pair of camo pants,” which shocks Jon, saying 5 years ago he couldn’t imagine her rocking a pair.
‘90s butter mom’ aesthetic
✓ Smash
Inspired by cozy kitchens and nostalgic fashion (think Martha Stewart kitchen or Jennifer Aniston in the ‘90s) this trend is all about warmth and comfort. Kristin sums it up as “very just like warm and inviting vibes,” while Jon agrees: “Butter mom aesthetic is absolutely a great trend.”
Under-eye patches in public
✗ Pass…at any cost
Wearing skincare out of the house may be convenient, but not everyone’s convinced. Jon bluntly says the trend “sucks.” Kristin offers a softer take, noting, “If you’re on vacation, it’s fine,” but questions whether it’s “chic or…try hard.”
Flexing on Instagram
✗ Pass
Overt displays of wealth may be fading from the feed. “I don’t even really think it exists anymore,” Kristin says. “It used to be like people flexing their G-wagons and all their designer stuff. Like, I really don’t see that anymore.” Jon notes that perception may depend on who you follow as Kristin’s feed probably has a curated “the mom buttermilk vibe,” but both agree that the era of obvious online flexing feels like it’s on the decline.
Jelly nails
✓ Smash
These sheer, glossy nails earned an easy yes from both hosts, even though at first Jon had no idea what the trend was. “Sure, I like it,” Jon says. Kristin agrees, “Me too.”
Dating apps (specifically Hinge)
✗ Pass
“Diabolical” was the word Jon uses. After a few weeks back on, the verdict was…bleak. He hasn’t fully written off forever, but it’s definitely not thriving.
Peptides
✓ TBD
Peptides are trending in the wellness and fitness space, but the verdict is still pending. Jon shares early positives: “My sleep has been incredibly deep,” and “I have noticed a difference.” Still, he’s reserving judgment. “Let’s ask me in 3 months when I’m done.” Kristin questions the legitimacy surrounding it, noting how many aren’t FDA approved. So if you’re with this trend, proceed with caution.
