Most people record their annual ins-and-outs episode from a podcast studio. Jon Volk and Kristin Johns decided to do theirs while horseback riding across 800 acres in Tennessee, which somehow feels exactly right for them.

On That’s The Point, the co-hosts share the trends, habits, and little life philosophies they’re bringing into the second half of 2026, along with a few things they’re more than happy to leave behind.

Jon Volk and Kristin Johns Dropped Their 2026 Ins and Outs List

The Ins

Saying what you mean and meaning what you say

Johns has been holding this energy since January. The whole concept is dropping the people-pleasing, ditching the half-yeses, and giving everyone in your life clear, direct answers. “It’s like no is no, I don’t feel like doing that. Oh, I would like to do that. It all is coming from truth and upfront energy,” she says. Basically, your group chat will know exactly where you stand.

Hiring help, specifically a laundry service

Volk is entering his delegation era. “I’m looking to hire someone to do my laundry. I’m not kidding,” he says. If somebody else wants to separate the darks and lights, who’s he to stand in the way?

Stretching like your life depends on it

“Staying limber is totally in,” Johns says. “I do feel like it is lengthening the longevity of my life.” The older you get, the more you realize flexibility is less about touching your toes and more about being able to stand up from the couch without making sound effects.

Half-marathons

“Half-marathons are in this year,” Volk says. “I signed up. September.” Half-marathons are the sweet spot of fitness goals because they’re hard enough to feel like a real accomplishment, but not so unhinged that you have to rearrange your entire life to train. Plus, the post-race brunch is legitimately better than the race itself.

Capris (yes, really)

“Sporty capris are back,” Johns says. She’s even working a lace pair into rotation with “a little band tee on top.” If your immediate reaction is “absolutely not,” that’s understandable. But fashion has a funny habit of bringing back the exact thing everyone swore they’d never wear again.

Quitting while you’re ahead

“Life is too short to try to draw something out that’s not working,” Johns says. She’s talking about books, but this applies to a shocking number of things, from shows you’re only watching out of obligation to plans you weren’t excited about in the first place. At some point, forcing it becomes more exhausting than letting it go.

Natural fibers

After a stranger in a sauna told Johns she was “toxic maxing” with a polyester workout set, plastic Fiji bottle, and AirPods all at once, she had a bit of an existential crisis. Now she’s slowly replacing synthetic fabrics with cotton, wool, and cashmere. Whether or not you’re worried about toxins, natural fibers tend to be cooler, more breathable, and a lot more comfortable when it’s 95 degrees outside.

Whimsy

“Just doing little things in your day-to-day to make life more fun and romanticized,” Johns says. “Like putting flowers on your cake, putting sprinkles in your coffee.” Volk’s response? “You sound like a Pinterest board.” He’s not wrong, but Johns makes a good point. Most adults spend a lot of time waiting for birthdays, vacations, or special occasions to do anything fun. Whimsy is basically deciding a random Tuesday deserves a little attention too.

Going dark on social media

No farewell post, no “taking a break” announcement, just disappearing. Volk just posted on Instagram for the first time all year and reports zero regrets. It turns out the world keeps spinning even when strangers don’t know what you had for lunch.

The Outs

Dubai chocolate everything

“Way too much Dubai pistachio chocolate everywhere…Dubai chocolate lattes, Dubai chocolate surprise box, ‘get the Dubai chocolate’ at every store. It was too much,” Johns says. It had a great run. Then the internet did what the internet does and absolutely beat it into the ground.

Lunch meat

Volk is breaking up with nitrates after one too many unsettling Google deep dives. “I really do need to know what I’m putting in my body,” he says. The man is on a wellness journey, the deli counter is no longer safe, and we’re rooting for him.

ASMR

Specifically, the close-up, big-bite-into-the-camera variety that took over your FYP last year. “There is something nefarious about it,” Johns says. “When you’re going to buy these big chocolate balls and like, you’re putting your mouth up to the camera and taking a bite, it feels wrong and disturbing.”

Saying things are ‘life-changing’

“Saying ‘ugh, this horseback ride is life-changing,’ it’s not life-changing,” Volk says. The word is now reserved for actual life events (getting married, having a baby, accidentally going viral). Everything else is just nice.

The Instagram repost button

“With a slip of the finger, you can accidentally repost a Dubai ASMR chocolate-eating video,” Johns says, speaking from experience. Her PSA to everyone listening: “You need to go look at your Instagram repost because you’ve probably reposted something and had no idea.” There’s nothing quite like opening your profile and finding out you’ve publicly endorsed a video you don’t even remember watching.

Snacking

Volk says it pains him, but the age of mindless snacking is over. “I can’t afford snacks anymore,” he says. “Not with me trying to get into shape, run a marathon, take my peptides, get eight hours of sleep a night.” The mindset shift is real, and it tracks. Once you notice that the bag of Goldfish you destroyed at 3 p.m. is also the reason you crashed at 4 p.m., the magic kind of dies.

The final verdict? 2026 is the year of quitting what isn’t working, romanticizing what is, and hiring someone else to do your laundry. The Dubai chocolate stays in 2025.
