Khloé Kardashian Revealed Her Kids’ Movie Watchlist, and the Picks Are Surprisingly Elite
Maggie Ekberg
If your idea of a perfect Friday night is rewatching The Sandlot in matching pajamas with a bowl of popcorn that’s 90 percent butter, you and Khloé Kardashian are deeply on the same wavelength. The mom of two has built an entire movie-night philosophy around the idea that some films are too important to skip, and she’s making sure True, Tatum, Dream, and whoever else is at her house gets a proper cinematic education.
On Khloé in Wonder Land, Khloé breaks down the family movie list she’s been compiling for her kids, and frankly, it slaps.
The Robert Kardashian movie-night origin story
The whole tradition started with her dad.
“We would have movie night once a week,” Khloé recalls. “It would be a movie of his choosing, and they would be movies that either stuck out to him or he felt like they were just important movies that people reference in time.” Some of them she did not want to watch at the time, like Gaslight, the black-and-white movie that’s literally where the term gaslighting came from. “At the time, I was like, ‘What the f*ck is this? This is so boring,'” she says. But now those are the movies she remembers the most.
The full list, straight from Khloé’s brain
Khloé fires off this list in real time without missing a beat, so consider it the living, breathing draft of her family movie syllabus:
- The original Annie (no disrespect to the Jamie Foxx remake)
- The NeverEnding Story (Khloé says wait until kids are at least in double digits, it’s a little “creepy”)
- Romeo and Juliet (Khloé tagged this as a “for older” pick)
- The Witches
- Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead
- Love Story
- The Notebook
- Stepmom (she watched this recently with her mom Kris, who was sobbing the whole time)
- Titanic
- Beethoven (the dog movie, not the composer)
- The Sandlot
- The Little Rascals
- Beaches (“I have to watch this again. I just remember what a tearjerker it is. Is that appropriate?”)
- Now and Then
- The Parent Trap (“with Lindsay Lohan”)
- Newsies
- Cool Runnings
- Fried Green Tomatoes
- Drop Dead Fred
- Father of the Bride (“all of them”)
- Something’s Gotta Give
- As Good as It Gets
- The Baby-Sitters Club
- Clueless
- Pretty Woman
- Jurassic Park
- Goodfellas (Khloé tagged this as a “for older” classic)
- Scarface (Khloé tagged this as a “for older” classic)
- Ghost
- Man in the Moon
- Parenthood
- The Bodyguard
- Dirty Dancing
- Legally Blonde
- Steel Magnolias
- Adventures in Babysitting
- E.T.
- Look Who’s Talking
- Back to the Beach
- Cruel Intentions
- Forrest Gump
- Grease
- Only You
- The Land Before Time (“so sad”)
- Lord of the Flies
- Radio Flyer
- Backdraft
- Cocoon (“I don’t know why Cocoon is on here, I have to remember if I think it’s appropriate”)
- Meet Joe Black (Khloé says she and her brother both had this one on the list, for “when they’re way older”)
In other words, the Kardashian kids are about to grow up emotionally attached to at least six deeply upsetting movies before middle school. Want to build a list of your own? Grab a notes app, add anything that hit you growing up, and slowly build the family canon your kiddos will one day reference forever.
