Khloé Kardashian Dishes on Her Seamless Coparenting Dynamic with Tristan Thompson
Stephanie Taylor
Motherhood is the best, yet most challenging job in the world, according to Khloé Kardashian. Parents, if you are looking for some solid parenting advice, the momma of two and Good American cofounder has you covered. One of the most frequently asked questions she receives from fans is about parenting. Many parents are seeking advice and a sense of community in the busy, tiring, yet wonderful world of parenthood.
On Khloé in Wonder Land, Kardashian shares her experience as a single mom and what coparenting with her ex, Tristan Thompson, is like. She gets honest about parenting—the complex parts, the healing, and everything in between.
Parenting expectations versus reality
Growing up, Kardashian imagined that she’d have a lot of kids. Today, at 41 years old, she is the proud mom to True, 7, and Tatum, who turns 3 on July 28, and for now, she is content with two kids. “Once you have kids, it’s just different and you realize that it is incredibly hard,” she says. “A lot of us have these fantasies, and they change the older we get.”
Kardashian admits that parenting in 2025 is also really scary with the amount of information and negativity we have access to. “I have my two kids, and I feel like that’s how much I can protect right now,” she adds. “If I have more, I’d be able to do that too, but I feel like this is what I am able to do right now.”
Kardashian is very clear about one thing—she loves motherhood. She also thinks it’s the most demanding job in the world and understands that it is not for everyone. “Actual motherhood is the most incredible thing, and I also praise the people who choose not to have kids,” she encourages. “I think society makes you believe if you don’t have children, your life is less than and you can’t live a fulfilling life.”
How to deal with the fear of becoming a mom
For people who are scared about becoming a mom, Kardashian says everyone feels that fear. “I have never met anyone who is ready to have a baby,” she laughs. “You might think that, but then reality sets in. There’s still fear.”
Even if you are planning for a baby, Kardashian says that once it happens, you are stepping into the unknown. She recalls desperately wanting to have a child while she was married to Lamar Odom, but it didn’t work out for her at the time. “Even though I was intentionally trying to have a baby during that time, if I did get pregnant, I would have been terrified the second I got pregnant because it’s scary,” she says. “It’s a different world.”
Dealing with mom guilt
Mom guilt is definitely real, but Kardashian says you can’t understand it until you are a mom. “I sort of get it all the time,” she says. “I want to be so hands-on and be there for every activity, but it’s not possible; I can’t work the way I do, have two kids, and be at everyone’s activities all the time, and they’re good at making you feel bad.”
If you know that you are doing the best that you can, Kardashian encourages that mom guilt is a good feeling because it means that your kids love you and want you around. “I know how present I am as a mom,” she explains. “Some mom guilt is real, and some mom guilt is just your kids knowing what to say to pull on your heartstrings.”
Coparenting with an ex
When it comes to coparenting with Thompson, Kardashian says the coparenting relationship is pretty seamless. “There’s no drama when it comes to coparenting,” she says. “There is drama in other areas of our relationship, friendship, or whatever it’s called.”
What makes their relationship so smooth is that Thompson trusts Kardashian as a mom. “I don’t get a lot of pushback,” she explains. “He doesn’t doubt a lot of things I say, like if I want to put the kids in a certain school or I need to take them to a certain doctor—he trusts that I always have their best interests at heart.”
Kardashian also keeps her dynamics with Thompson as an “adults-only conversation.” She believes that many parents struggle with coparenting because they let their feelings and egos get in the way, and they overcomplicate things. “If me and Tristan are fighting or not getting along, my kids don’t need to know about it,” she says. “My kids have nothing to do with anything adult, but all they know is that mommy and daddy love them, and we’re here.”
Dividing time between coparents
Thompson currently plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers, which keeps him traveling a lot and away from True and Tatum. He has a house in Calabasas near the Kardashians, which helps with family time. So when he’s in town, the kids will go to their dad’s house for dinner or to spend quality time. Kardashian also invites Thompson to all the kid-related activities.
“I will definitely have Tristan around for kid-related things, but he’s not just around to hang out with me,” she explains. “We both respect each other when it comes to the children, but the truth is I’m the one who makes this coparenting relationship really easy. If I wanted to torture Tristan, I could, but what does that do for my kids.”
Kardashian encourages parents navigating complex coparenting dynamics to realize that it is possible to create a healthy family environment for their children. “In the worst of times, you can still control yourself if you have control over your emotions,” she adds. “It’s for your kids.”
