Kristen Doute Is Finally Ready to Talk Motherhood, Post-‘Vanderpump Rules’ Life

The Kristen Doute conversation fans wanted finally landed on Not Skinny But Not Fat, with host Amanda Hirsch welcoming the Bravo alum for a frank catch-up that lives exactly where real life meets reality TV.  It’s also the clearest picture yet of what post-Vanderpump looks like for Doute now: Motherhood and healing come first, while reality TV and fame are in a very distant second.

Doute exited Vanderpump Rules in 2020 after nine seasons, and now stars on Bravo’s spin-off, The Valley, which follows former VPR cast members navigating life in the suburbs. But this version of Kristen Doute operates with new rules—messy edges, big feelings, and zero appetite for manufactured moments.

As a new mom, Doute learned to show what’s real, protect what matters, and keep the rest off-camera. That’s the energy that carries her into The Valley, and it’s the line she draws around her family.

Life at home with a newborn

Early on, Doute admits that she worried she might not have the lightning bolt moment the delivery room social media posts promise. Speaking about daughter Kaia, Doute admits: “I had this anxiety about what if I don’t cry happy tears when they lay her on me,” she says. “Or what if I’m not work-soul connected and all of these feelings?” Doute remembers flashes of the delivery—“I remember the pushing part”—and leans on fiancé Luke Broderick to tell the rest: “Even when we tell the birth story, I make Luke tell half of it because I don’t remember some of it.”

The family milestones are purposeful. Doute smiles, describing the engagement that ties back to her daughter’s name: “Kaia means the sea in Hawaiian. Not that we’re Hawaiian, ’cause we’re not, but we got engaged in Hawaii.”

Opening up about fertility and finding community

Viewers watched The Valley chronicle infertility worries and lab results, and Hirsch notes how wild it felt to see the season end there, only for real life to catch up.

Doute doesn’t downplay how heavy it was to relive. “I don’t know if I would be very okay watching all of that back without having her,” she says. Then she explains why she chose to go public while it was airing, especially since opening up about her own pregnancy loss gave space for other women to do the same.

She calls it “the positive side of social media,” where she found herself “really connecting with perfect strangers about things like that,” adding, “that’s really why I did it. It was healing.”

The Valley—and drawing a line under the past

When the conversation pivots to TV, Doute says she is happy to share parts of motherhood on camera, but she still keeps the sacred moments sacred. On getting engaged, she told Luke from the jump: “I don’t want it on the show. I feel like it’s gonna take away like the sanctity of like what’s real for us.”

That insistence on authenticity also shapes her view of the broader franchise. After years of watching VPR as a viewer, Doute draws a firm boundary for The Valley. “They scripted it [Vanderpump Rules],” she snaps. “That shit’s not gonna fly on The Valley. Not with me.”

What’s next for Kristen Doute

The next chapter appears to be a life that prioritizes her family and keeps her work aligned with that center. She’s building her home base, filming The Valley with boundaries, and keeping the personal milestones personal.

On screen, that may mean more real-life storytelling and fewer set pieces. Off-screen, it includes projects fans already know her for—her fashion line, her book, and her podcasting—woven around a schedule that starts and ends with the baby.

If there’s a thesis to Doute’s post‑Vanderpump era, she already said it best: “That’s really why I did it. It was healing.” When Kristen Doute says it, she means it—and the show will be better for it.
