Kristin Cavallari Shares Her Calming Summer Morning Routine and Her Journey to Wholeness
Stephanie Taylor
Now that the dust has settled from her whirlwind podcast tour, Kristin Cavallari is giving us more insider tea. This time she’s taking us behind the scenes of one of the most meaningful panels she’s ever been a part of—The Today Show’s entrepreneur panel in NYC. She shares her answers to what she calls “the best questions I’ve ever gotten about identity, confidence, people-pleasing, and the journey of becoming yourself.”
On brand with her typical candor, Cavallari is opening up about what she’s learned the last few years—how she went from running on autopilot to feeling whole and no longer chasing outside validation. She also shares how she found her peace in her personal life and her calming summer morning routine. If you are looking for a little more peace and confidence, Cavallari has a few words of wisdom for you.
Cavallari shares her journey to wholeness
During her Honestly Cavallari press tour, Cavallari says she typically gets asked the same questions. They are often about confidence, people pleasing, and how she has transitioned from one chapter of her life to the next. “What I realized during this panel is that women everywhere are looking for guidance on finding themselves and being true to themselves,” Cavallari says. “Women have to wear a lot of hats, and there’s a lot of pressure to be everything and do everything.”
Although Cavallari doesn’t think she has it all figured out, she acknowledges her own growth. “I’m really good at saying ‘no,’ I have gotten my work-life balance to a great place, and it’s been a lot of trial and error, but I have grown,” she says. “I have found inner peace, and I realize that I am whole.”
Cavallari encourages women who are on the journey to confidence and identity to do the work, too. “Get to the root of your struggles, really heal that and accept yourself—flaws and all,” Cavallari encourages. “Retrain your thoughts. Anytime you have a negative thought about yourself, flip it and put a positive spin on it.”
Saying no to guilt and growing in confidence
In addition to focusing on gratitude, Cavallari says she has learned to focus on what is most important to her and what makes her happy. Once she can identify those things, she says no to everything else. “For me, I am really good at saying no because if I am spread too thin, I start to stress out and have anxiety,” she says. “If I’m spread too thin, it shows.”
And this isn’t just about your professional life, either. Cavallari has learned to say “no” and set boundaries in her personal life, too. “When it comes to my social life, I know that most nights I still want to be in bed by 9:30 p.m.,” she says. “I have realized how to balance my schedule so that I am never overwhelmed.”
How Cavallari navigates new seasons of her life
Cavallari admits that she had no idea who she was until the last few years. “I really thought in my 20s and early 30s that I had a good handle on who I was,” she says. “It wasn’t until the last few years that I really did a deep dive that I realized I was a lost little puppy.”
In addition to therapy, Cavallari says that getting older helps in the journey to finding yourself and building your confidence. “In your late 30s, you kind of start to not give a sh*t what other people think, and your priorities shift,” she explains. “When I realized that I am enough and I am whole, it completely changed things because I am no longer chasing things.”
Cavallari’s summer morning routine
As a mom of three, one of Cavallari’s favorite things about summer is a break from the madness of school, sports, and after school activities. She admits she is a summer baby—she thrives in shorts and flip flops.
In celebration of her slower summer mornings, Cavallari shares her summer morning routine. Typically, one of her two youngest kids sleeps with her, Jaxen or Saylor, which she admits she loves. She’s up by 7 a.m., and after Cavallari lets her dogs out, she takes a probiotic and an amino acid.
Cavallari makes breakfast every single morning—even when she isn’t hungry. She usually eats an egg bowl with three eggs with goat cheese or feta cheese, scallions, pickled jalapenos, and red onions. Sometimes, she’ll do hard boiled eggs, berries, and avocado—just depending on her mood. “What I have found is that I have way more energy,” she says. “I’m really full and don’t think about food again until noon.”
After breakfast, Cavallari checks emails and gets caught up on messages while she drinks her coffee. Her signature coffee recipe is black coffee, maple syrup, vanilla paste, and raw cream from a local farm. “It’s so f***ing good,” she says. “I hate getting coffee from other places because my coffee at home is so good.”
Next, Cavallari cleans the dishes and feeds the dogs, before heading to the gym. She loves her slow mornings. “It’s a very slow morning with no distractions,” she says. “These mornings remind me of my early mornings before I had kids. Moms with young kids know that there will come a day when you have those quieter mornings.”
