Lisa Rinna Breaks Down the Real Work of Rebuilding After Reality TV
Bernadette Giacomazzo
There’s a particular moment in life when you look back at a version of yourself and realize you weren’t okay—you just didn’t realize it, at the time. But while most people have that moment privately, Lisa Rinna had it while millions of people watched.
On Let’s Not Talk About the Husband, Rinna and husband Harry Hamlin settle back into the studio—flood repaired, merch ready, coffee in hand—and the conversation turns into something more profound than a typical life update. What starts as playful banter about Rihanna T-shirts and pantry staples turns into a thoughtful exploration of what happens when grief, pressure, and public scrutiny collide simultaneously.
Lisa Rinna is learning to look at the past without letting it define her
When Rinna talks about her final years on reality TV, she doesn’t sugarcoat the emotional fallout, describing it the way anyone would after coming out the other side of something intense. She reflects on the period when social media responses began to affect her more than she wanted. “I became quite reactionary on Instagram and that didn’t really serve me at all,” she explains.
Today, she’s doing slower work and breaking down what happened with enough distance to finally see her own role clearly. Rinna’s determination to learn from her past is a beacon of hope for anyone facing similar challenges. “I am literally breaking it down right now so that I can really process it and see what I did and how I created it and what happened,” she says.
Hamlin also shares the moment when things genuinely shifted, connecting it directly to the loss of Rinna’s mother. “It ceased to be just a TV show after your mom died,” he reveals.
Some signs come quietly—and some arrive in the form of a broken bird
One of the more surprising moments comes when Rinna talks about something she’s never shared publicly— her mother’s tiny ceramic bird she brought with her to her final reunion taping. She remembers taking it out of her bag that day and then hearing it shatter. “I took the little bird out of my bag and it broke, and I took that as such a sign,” she says.
And someone else saw it too. Before she left the set that night, Erika Jayne came to her with a message: “You can never come back to this show. You must leave and not come back.” Rinna sounds grateful that someone else was willing to say what she already knew but couldn’t quite admit yet.
Creativity is still the engine, not the aftermath
Rinna talks about fame the same way someone else might talk about a career dream they chased for years. The drive was never mysterious. “The best thing about it is I wanted to do it and I did it,” she states.
She also talks about creativity in a way that makes it clear she’s not trying to reclaim the past. She’s experimenting, making things, and enjoying the freedom of doing it her way. “Sometimes it gets me into trouble, sometimes it goes viral, sometimes it brings people joy, but I get to do it,” she explains.
Rinna doesn’t pretend everything was easy. She doesn’t shy away from the hard parts. But she’s living in a moment where she’s finally able to look at the whole picture with clarity instead of defensiveness.

One response to “Lisa Rinna Breaks Down the Real Work of Rebuilding After Reality TV”
It is one of the hardest things to deal with the loss of a much loved parent. I lost my mother when I was 22 and pregnant with my first child. It was tough poor Dad who adored her was a complete mess. When one suffers grief we all deal with it in our own way. People need to remember when leaving comments its a living breathing human who will read it. Have empathy show respect dont trash talk them it shows a lack of respect.
I didn’t always agree with Lisa’s mad moments but she sure as heck wasn’t boring !! I wish her all the best.
