Calling all the lucky girls! This is a state of the union for women who are creating their own luck in life. We are talking about the women who are securing the bag and refuse to fumble any opportunity that comes their way. The women who are launching businesses, starring in movies, and becoming New York Times bestselling authors, maybe even at the same time.
Are you looking to usher in more lucky energy and attract the things and people that you want in your life? We are halfway through 2025, and it’s okay if you are feeling misaligned with the goals you set back in January. The good news is you can tap into lucky girl energy at any time of year. The funny thing is luck is not something that just happens to you. It’s actually something you create. To feel more aligned and lucky, follow these lucky girl commandments. You’ll thank us later!
Lucky girl commandment number one is to increase your risk tolerance. Lucky girls are not afraid to take a little risk here and there. Les Alfred, host of She’s So Lucky, describes herself as risk averse. But she’s learned to get out of her comfort zone and step up to the plate this past year, especially with the rebranding of her former podcast, Balanced Black Girl in 2024 and her big move to NYC back in 2023.
Alfred shares a bit about luck and risks on a recent episode of She’s So Lucky: “If you are a risk averse person, like me, it can be so scary, taking even the smallest risk. Those lucky moments are going to push us out of our comfort zones. But it requires risk tolerance. You need to be able to step up to the plate, if the plate feels a little higher than you are used to, she says.”
There’s nothing worse than being handed an opportunity and then fumbling it, so this lucky girl commandment is paramount. You must prepare, train, learn, and grow to score the metaphorical “game point” in life.
“Position yourself so that you are ready so when the opportunity comes your way, you are ready to execute on it,” Alfred says. Is there a skill you need to develop or grow? Is there someone you need to network with or reach out to for help?
If you want to call in more lucky moments in your life, you have to take action. Good things don’t just happen. To usher in your lucky girl energy, Alfred encourages you to ask yourself, “What are the daily actions that I am taking to pick up the ball and run with it for the next opportunity and lucky moment?”
The next lucky girl commandment is to follow your curiosity and align with your intuition. The luckiest moments in your life will happen when you lean into curiosity and take opportunities that come your way. Don’t be hellbent on things happening a certain way or looking a certain way. Good things sometimes come in small—or weird—looking packages.
“Sometimes luck comes in unexpected ways. You can get exactly what you are looking for but in a slightly different package. A sense of curiosity disarms us from being too guarded,” Alfred says.
Luck is the ability to take the cards you’ve been dealt and make something good out of it. You create your own luck when you are able to flip obstacles into opportunities. Take Beyonce, for example, she’s known for making lemons out of lemonade throughout her career. Like Queen B, you’ll want to develop the ability to turn hard things into opportunities that catapult you forward.
When you walk into a room, be present. Ambitious women are always looking ahead to the next thing, the next goal, and the next room they want to be in. Lucky girls are present in the rooms they are in right now. They are grounded and firmly planted in the spaces where they are. Being present opens the door to your “dream room” and makes it easier to invite in the next thing.
When you detach from the outcome, things might just turn out better than you imagined. Don’t get caught up in the “how” so much that you miss out on the “what.” Luck requires serendipity.
Alfred’s luck changed when she stepped out of her comfort zone and moved from Seattle to Los Angeles six years ago. She says she showed up even when she was scared. “It all came into alignment when it needed to come into alignment, without me needing to know the exact ‘how,’” she reveals.
Lucky energy leaves room for things to look different from your expectations and releases the outcome without knowing the why, how, or when. “It leaves room for wonder, and that leaves room for things to be better than we could have imagined,” Alfred adds.
