It’s Not Too Late to Turn Your 2026 Resolutions Around—Here’s How
Maggie Ekberg
Raise your hand if you made a bunch of ambitious New Year’s resolutions…and haven’t looked at that list since January. Same. The good news is you’re not behind nearly as much as you think. Halfway through the year isn’t proof you’ve failed. According to The Dream Bigger host Siffat Haider, it’s actually the perfect checkpoint. Instead of waiting until December to wonder what happened, she recommends giving your goals a mid-year audit now, while there’s still plenty of time to change course.
Before You Abandon Your 2026 Goals, Try This Mid-Year Reset
Sit down with your January list
“What I like to do is block out time to review all of my goals,” Haider explains. “What have you been doing and not doing?”
Go find that list you made back in January (Yes, even if it’s buried somewhere in your Notes app). Then see what actually happened.
- Which goals have stuck?
- Which ones disappeared after February?
- Do they still fit the life you want now?
- What’s been getting in the way?
There’s no prize for pretending everything’s still on track. Figure out where things stand now, and the second half of the year gets a whole lot easier to plan.
Keep what still fits, cut what doesn’t
“If your goals have changed because your priorities have changed, because your values have changed, because your life has changed…that’s completely fine,” Haider says. “I don’t think you should ever feel guilty about feeling like a goal isn’t aligned for you anymore.” Not every goal deserves six more months just because you wrote it down between Christmas cookies and champagne.
Break big goals into bite-size pieces
A goal like “get fitter” sounds great and means nothing, because you can’t do “get fitter” on a random Tuesday. Haider’s fix is to shrink the big, vague version into small, specific actions—then drop each one onto the calendar like any other appointment. Anything with a time slot has a real shot at happening. The same trick works for almost any goal:
- “Get fitter” becomes three workout classes booked and a Sunday walk on the schedule
- “Save more money” becomes an automatic transfer every payday, so it happens whether you remember or not
- “Read more” becomes 20 pages before bed instead of doomscrolling until 1 a.m.
- “Be more social” becomes an actual dinner reservation instead of another conversation about making one.
Put a monthly check-in on repeat
Haider doesn’t treat this like a once-a-year exercise. She checks in with herself every month to see whether her habits are still working and whether her goals still fit the life she’s building. “It’s not that I do this perfectly,” she admits, and when she skips a few, she feels it: “Something feels a little bit off, and then I’ll go in and do my check-in.” That’s exactly why she keeps doing them. “If we don’t have actual proper check-ins with ourselves,” she says, “we just start to live life on autopilot.”
