The Best Wedding Moments Happen When You Stop Trying to Be Perfect, According to the ‘Real Pod’
Bernadette Giacomazzo
If there’s one universal truth about weddings, it’s that everyone wants theirs to be perfect—until they realize perfection is overrated. That’s precisely what Aubrey Wood, content creator and newlywed, learned during her wedding journey. In her recent conversation with Real Pod host and best friend Victoria Garrick Browne, Wood reflected on the pressure to “get it all right” and the immense relief that came with letting go of control, which turned out to be the most freeing (and beautiful) part of her big day.
Despite a few surprises along the way, her wedding still went viral. But more than that, it showed what can happen when a bride focuses less on perfection and more on presence.
How letting go turned chaos into calm
Wood’s wedding was the definition of calm in motion. As Garrick Browne noted, even the planner couldn’t believe how relaxed the bride was. “Aubrey was the most chill bride I’ve ever witnessed in my life,” the planner told her. “She didn’t stress about anything.”
“I’ve been to weddings where it starts raining or the worst thing imaginable happens, and it adds to it. The pictures turn out gorgeous. Who cares? Everyone you love is there,” Wood states, encouraging listeners to learn to accept what you can’t control. Embracing the unpredictability of the day brought a sense of excitement and joy, making the experience even more memorable.
Instead of micromanaging every second, Wood allowed herself to trust the process—and the people around her. When the wind made it impossible for her veil to stay in place, she just laughed it off. “I just put my shoe on it,” she admits.
Choosing peace over performance
In a social media age where weddings can feel more like high-fashion content shoots than celebrations, Wood took a different approach. She and her husband, Alex, handed off their phones and hired a professional content team to handle every photo, caption, and post. That decision gave them the rare gift of being fully present.
“We didn’t have our phones the entire weekend,” she says. “Someone else had them, and it was so nice to just live in the moment.” When she finally got her phone back, she discovered that her team had already shared 45 videos. “Perfect,” she laughed. “It was like reliving everything without missing any of it in real time.”
The calm before the ‘I do’
Even the most grounded brides have moments of panic, and Wood is no exception. Just before walking down the aisle, she found herself alone with her makeup team—and her nerves. “I was kind of freaking out,” she admits. “They had me do a little jitter dance to shake it off.”
The moment turned into something sweet and grounding, a pre-ceremony reset that helped her shift from anxiety to joy. “I liked being around everybody,” she recalls. “The silence brought up a lot of feelings.”
Wood’s ceremony ended up being her favorite part of the day—not the dance floor, not the photo ops, but the vows themselves. “Hearing my husband’s vows…I’ll never get that feeling back,” she says. “That was just the best ever.”
What ‘real’ looks like at weddings
Wood’s approach was all about staying authentic. She chose not to do a traditional parent dance after losing her father, instead weaving his memory into the ceremony in subtle, heartfelt ways. “I wanted my dad to be part of the day, but not for it to feel sad,” she explains. From personalized notes to guests to a playlist featuring couples’ first dance songs, every detail reflected intention rather than obligation.
Even her advice to future brides was wise and straightforward: “There’s no reason to stress about anything, especially when it’s out of your control.”
Weddings, like life, are unpredictable. But as Wood proves, the moments that stay with you are the ones you allow to happen.
