Scheana Shay has built Scheananigans into a safe space where she can air out her side of the story and speak her truth without the editing cuts of reality TV. But recently, she dove headfirst into a drama that left her feeling blindsided.

Instead of shrugging it off, Shay reclaimed the narrative. This isn’t just another round of Housewives mess—though it does involve the usual ingredients of he-said-she-said group texts. For Shay, it’s about trust, friendship, and respect. And when it comes to Teddi Mellencamp in particular, Shay made it clear that she expected better.

Why? Because, as Shay points out, Mellencamp’s entire brand is about accountability. And as Shay explained, accountability is the one thing she feels has been missing in this messy situation.

Why she reached out to Teddi Mellencamp and Tamra Judge

The drama didn’t start on Scheananigans—it actually kicked off when Mellencamp and Judge discussed accusations involving Gretchen Rossi and Katie Ginella on their own podcast, Two T’s in a Pod, earlier this month. During the episode, Mellencamp suggested that Shay might have been the one to pass a damaging rumor to journalist KiKi Monique, linking her directly to the Season 19 drama between Ginella and Rossi.

Shay addressed the headlines again a few days later during a live appearance, making it clear she wouldn’t let her name be used to stir up Housewives chaos. “The truth is with Gretchen. Gretchen never said this to Katie,” she told Page Six. “So now for Katie to go on Two T’s in a Pod, and go, ‘Well I heard Scheana heard this from Gretchen and told KiKi,’ I’m like, I’ve never…never heard any of this at all.” She also doubled down on her loyalty to her longtime friend: “Gretchen has never said this. I’ve been friends with her for over 15 years. I think I would’ve heard this story by now, and now they’re just spreading lies about me, and I have an issue with that that I address on my podcast on Friday.”

That’s when she decided to go straight to the proverbial source.

“Well, I called Tamra. The day that I heard it. And she was whitewater rafting or something. And so she was like, Let me text you when I get back, or let me call you when I get back to the hotel. And I was like, okay. And then I never heard from her,” Shay explains on this week’s Scheananigans.

She didn’t stop there: “So yes, I did talk about it on my podcast ’cause you talked about it on [yours]. And that’s the frustrating thing for me. One of the things I’ve always loved so much about Teddi is her whole brand of accountability. That’s kind of all I’m asking for here.”

For Shay, the silence from Judge and the vague response from Mellencamp weren’t enough. “I’m not trying to fight her. She’s someone I’ve considered a friend for several years. Same with Tamra,” she says. That’s why the lack of response cut deeper than just standard reality TV shade.

Defamation, friendship, and the call for accountability

Shay was clear about what she felt happened. “But then I’m like, was it Tamra or was it someone else? I don’t know. So I’m asking them about it. I text both of them in a group text. I’m like, okay, now several days have gone by and I haven’t heard from either of you,” she recalls.

And when Judge finally responded, Shay wasn’t satisfied. “Tamra was like, ‘Why would I reach out to you when you did an emergency podcast and didn’t even wait for me to call you back?’ And I’m like, ‘I did not do an emergency podcast. I was recording another podcast two days later. Hadn’t heard from you.'”

But it was Mellencamp’s response that stood out the most. “And then Teddi responded and said she was under the weather and that this was just very silly in the big scheme of things, and she was over it,” Shay remembers.

While Shay wished her well, she also drew a line. “Tamra, in the big scheme of things, it’s not silly to me when I’m literally being defamed,” she says. “That is the definition of what y’all did on the podcast when you said a lie about me and have now not retracted that and taken accountability.”

Scheana Shay is not a people pleaser anymore

For years, Shay has dealt with a reputation of being a people-pleaser—the cast member who let others walk all over her. She knows fans expect her to roll over and take it, but now, she explains, that version of her is gone. Good for her!

“People are so used to me being a people-pleaser and me allowing people to walk all over me and don’t realize that 40-year-old Scheana has a newfound confidence as a New York Times bestseller,” she says. “I’m not going to put up with your shit. Maybe I need to call my lawyer, but it’s defamation, and I’m not okay with that.”

At the end of the day, Shay insists this isn’t about tearing down Mellencamp or Judge. She isn’t backing down because, in her eyes, being falsely accused is not something she can laugh off. What’s more, she’s not afraid to defend herself—even if it means holding friends accountable when lines are crossed.
