8 Embarrassing Habits That Are Way More Universal Than Anyone Wants to Admit
Maggie Ekberg
There are things you do every single day that you would never say out loud. Not because they’re actually bad, but because admitting them feels like giving up the illusion that you have it all together. On That’s the Point, hosts Jon Volk and Kristin Johns decide to rip that bandaid off and confess the things they hate to admit, from mildly embarrassing to genuinely unhinged.
Whether you relate to all of these or just a couple, their confessions might make yours feel a lot less weird.
8 Embarrassing Habits That Nobody Wants to Admit
Neither of them finished college
Volk is three credits short of a community college associate’s degree. Johns is three credits short of her degree from FSU in media communications with a minor in English. She even went through the process of calling FSU to finish. “I’m like, I don’t have time for this,” she recalls thinking. “I mean, I do, but I don’t want to.” She did walk at graduation though. “Well then, as far as I know, you have a master’s,” Volk quips.
The fake work call to get off the phone
“If I want to get off the phone, I say, ‘Oh, so sorry, I have a work call coming in,'” Volk admits. He’s never done it to Johns, because as she puts it, “I hang up before you could even say that.” Their typical phone calls last under a minute and there is zero small talk involved. Just say what you need to say and hang up.
Asking someone to do something and then doing it yourself two seconds later
Johns asks her husband Marcus to do something simple like take the trash out, waits approximately zero time for him to do it, does it herself, and then walks past him and announces “I did it.” She fully admits this is bratty. Volk agrees. “That’s a total brat,” he says. Is it rational? Absolutely not. Does it feel satisfying in the moment? Every single time.
Blocking people on TikTok after three annoying videos
Johns has a three-strike rule on her FYP. “If I see someone that annoys me pop up on my TikTok For You page like one or two times, by the third time I’m blocking them,” she says. “I’m like, I can’t bear to see your face again.” Sometimes we forget that the block button exists and we just sit there suffering through content we can’t stand. Johns is here to remind you that curating your feed is free and takes about half a second.

Fake phone call to dodge small talk in public
“If I see someone out in public that I do not want to have small talk with…I instantly pick up my phone and I have a fake phone call,” Volk says. Full performance. “Hey, how are you?” Keep walking. Johns takes a different approach. “For me, I just run and hide. Or I just pretend I didn’t see them and like look all around.” Both of them agree that running into acquaintances when you’re on a mission is one of life’s most draining social obligations.
Being horrifically bad at directions
Johns has never once driven anywhere without maps. Not even to her favorite coffee shop. “I would quite literally be lost without maps,” she says. Her friends constantly test her by randomly asking “Do you know where we are right now?” and she tries to play it cool but the maps app is always open. “If there is a right or wrong way, I will always choose the wrong way…and I got it from my mama because she is horrible at directions too.”
Cold sushi for breakfast at 7 a.m.
Volk loves leftover sushi with black coffee first thing in the morning and he’s not apologizing. “I love to have leftover sushi at 7 a.m. for breakfast with my black coffee,” he says. Johns fully supports it. “The rules when it comes to food and eating, it’s like you have to have bacon at breakfast. You have to have a sandwich at lunch,” she says. “I like that you are breaking those barriers.” If you’ve ever eaten last night’s dinner for breakfast and felt like a feral raccoon, just know you’re in good company.
Hating a brand forever because the team was awful
Johns only works with brands she loves, but the second the team behind the scenes makes her life miserable, the brand is dead to her. “If their team sucks and they put me through living hell, I hate the brand forever,” she says. Volk compares it to a restaurant with great food but terrible service. “They treat you bad? No, I’m not going back.” Johns couldn’t share specifics for legal reasons but did confirm “mama laid down the law and mama got what she needed.”
