Scheana Shay is not holding back—especially regarding her complicated relationship with former boss and Bravo queen bee, Lisa Vanderpump. On Scheananigans with Scheana Shay, the Vanderpump Rules alum opens up about their not-so-sweet dynamic, giving listeners a preview of what’s to come in her upcoming memoir, My Good Side. And yes, Lisa Vanderpump is most definitely included.
For years, Scheana Shay was one of Lisa Vanderpump’s most loyal foot soldiers. From waiting tables at Villa Blanca to headlining drama on Vanderpump Rules, Scheana was always there with her signature smile and glittery crop tops, ready to ride for LVP. But things started to shift behind the scenes.
Kristen Doute recently hinted at the fallout during an episode of The Bitch Bible, saying, “When Scheana’s book comes out, she told me that there’s a lot of tea about Lisa in there.” Kristen added that Scheana feels like “the shit on the bottom of Lisa’s shoe now,” suggesting a major drop in status post-show.
Scheana herself confirmed that their relationship has changed. She said on the Two T’s in a Pod podcast, “I don’t talk to [Lisa] too often. She usually calls when she needs something… She had a question about a friend of mine on another show of hers, and that was pretty much it.”
Meanwhile, Vanderpump told Us Weekly she “hasn’t spoken to Scheana,” even though she “almost grew up with me.” When pressed, Lisa gave a diplomatic answer: “They’re all doing OK, and I think Scheana is doing OK… I can’t talk to everyone from the show all the time.”
On her latest Scheananigans episode, Scheana sets the record straight. “There are things that I’ve never felt comfortable talking about that I open up about in the book,” she explains. “Because I’ve always been very loyal to Lisa.”
One of the most heartbreaking moments? Lisa’s radio silence after Scheana’s miscarriage in 2020. “Everyone else, even former bosses, sent me flowers or called. I didn’t hear from her at all,” Scheana said. After weeks of nothing, she contacted Pandora (Lisa’s daughter) to check if everything was okay. Eventually, Lisa did reach out—but only after being told to.
“That just really broke my heart,” Scheana confessed. “I guess we’re just not that close anymore.”
She goes on to clarify that the book isn’t some scorched-earth takedown of Lisa. “It’s not necessarily tea I’m spilling about Lisa,” she says. “It’s tea I’m spilling about myself. It’s my truth, and she’s a part of that story.”
And for anyone who thinks Scheana “owes” Lisa her career? She’s not having it.
“First of all, Bravo gave me this opportunity. And the success of Vanderpump Rules was because of us—a messy group of friends, not because people were tuning in to see Lisa’s life,” Scheana said. “Without us, there would be no Vanderpump Villa, Overserved, or Vanderpump Dogs. We made that show successful.”
Scheana’s perspective is refreshingly honest and more grounded than dramatic. “There’s no bad blood,” she said. “She’s my former employer and producer. She’s not my family and doesn’t treat me like a friend. That’s been made pretty clear.”
So does she expect a heartfelt call from Lisa after the book drops? Not exactly.
“I literally have a trauma response when she calls me,” Scheana joked. “It’s never just to say hi—it’s always about what I did wrong or what she needs from me.”
In other words, don’t expect a reconciliation lunch at SUR anytime soon.
Still, Scheana’s not out for revenge. She’s just finally telling her side of the story, after over a decade of biting her tongue. “I think I’m honest. I think I’m fair. And no one has read the book yet, so let’s not jump to conclusions.”My Good Side hits shelves July 22—and if this podcast episode is any indication, it will be a must-read for anyone who’s ever watched Bravo, worn a chunky statement necklace, or served goat cheese balls at a restaurant owned by Lisa Vanderpump.
