When it comes to life after Love Island, some contestants find internet fame and brand deals, some return to normal life, and a few find true love. Winter 2023 contestants Jessie Wynter and Will Young (aka Farmer Will) found all of it. Since leaving the villa, their relationship continues to grow, and they are opening up about their plans to build a life together.
The Adebayo sisters, Whitney and Lizzy, welcomed their podcast neighbors (Wynter and Young recently launched a new podcast, Agree to Disagree) to share about life after the show, what it’s like living on Young’s farm, and Wynter’s big move from Australia to the UK.
Love is certainly in the air for these two. Check out this week’s episode of What’s It Giving to hear for yourself.
For Wynter and Young, the decision to continue their relationship after the show meant making significant changes. They knew if they were living in two different countries at the start of their relationship with all the attention from the show, their relationship would crumble.
“If we wanted to make it work, I had to,” Wynter says. “I can’t be in Australia and we are together. How is that going to work?”
When they came out of the show they discussed all the options, but realistically living in the UK together made the most sense. “We had a lot of discussions when we came out of the villa, but it’s Love Island UK, so it is just the most sensible thing.”
It’s been two years since their time on Love Island, and since leaving the villa, Wynter says it’s been a quick-moving journey. “When you come out of the show, time just goes so fast because you’re so busy doing the most random things,” Wynter says. “It’s like a big tornado hits you once you’re out.”
The couple travels back and forth from Australia and the UK. They just returned from seven weeks in Australia with Wynter’s family for the holidays.
These days, Wynter spends her time focusing on content creation and building her brand as an influencer. It’s not all glitz and glam, but it requires a lot of work. “There’s a lot behind it. The fun bits of your life and like posting on the internet become work.”
Wynter and Young also recently released their podcast, Agree to Disagree, where they talk about the latest Love Island headlines and advice for relationships, career, and life.
Farm life is treating the couple well so far. “The farm is farming, the sheep are pregnant, the goats are goating—it’s all happening,” Young says.
But it was still an adjustment for Wynter, who had different expectations of farm life before moving. When Wynter moved to the farm, she thought she was moving to an aesthetic, vibey British countryside farm. “But this is just a working, pooey, smelly farm,” Young laughs.
Young has made a few questionable farm animal purchases since returning home. In an endearing attempt to ease Wynter’s homesickness, he brought home three baby emus to the farm. While the Australian native birds seemed like a good idea initially, Young describes them as “swans with tall legs and longer necks.” What does Wynter think of his romantic gesture? “They’re cute when they’re babies, but now, they’re freaking scary,” she says of the now six-foot-tall birds.
The couple is renovating their dream home as well, which has been a stressful and time consuming project. “The job never gets done. So the actual kitchen is in, but everywhere I look, there’s work to get done. I do not suggest renovating,” Wynter says.
Wynter and Young believe that the success of their relationship is all about teamwork: “When we got to the end of Love Island, we both wanted to leave. It, like, trauma bonded us. When we were there, we were a team. When we came out, we were still a team,” Young says.
While they are open about their desire to get married in the future, with hopes for an Australian wedding, it’s not their immediate priority. (More importantly, will the emus be in attendance?!)
The couple’s current focus is on their new podcast and saving to buy a new farm. “I feel like we are so confident and comfortable within ourselves, but I don’t need to necessarily put a ring on her finger to solidify our love,” Young says.
