Lala Kent is Done Compromising

When Lala Kent told the world she was planning to have a baby via sperm donor, skeptics dismissed it as a reality TV storyline. Now, with two daughters, two houses, and a carefully constructed “pod” of family support, the Vanderpump Rules star is proving that modern motherhood—and independence—doesn’t need to follow anyone else’s script.

“I think people thought I was full of shit,” Kent tells Amanda Hirsch on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast (listen to it here) about her journey to baby #2. But as she points out: “I’m not signing up for the next 18 plus years for one good season on a show.”

Kent welcomed her second daughter, Sosa, via sperm donor three months ago, joining big sister Ocean. The process was entirely intentional—and entirely hers. “I knew from the jump it was like, I don’t ever want to share a baby again. I enjoy doing motherhood on my own and if I have that option, why would I not do it?”

This independence extends beyond motherhood. Kent has built what she calls a “pod,” living with her mom and brother in a house she purchased herself. It’s a setup she’s fiercely protective of, and for good reason. “When you don’t think that you’ll ever have it, you suddenly are not willing to compromise to restructure,” she explains of her hard-won independence.

That’s not to say she’s closed off to love. “I do not hate men. I can’t wait to find a person,” Kent clarifies. But any potential partner needs to understand: “The pod just grows, right? Like things change… I just like the way things are going right now.”

In true Lala fashion, she’s already thinking about baby #3—yes, with the same donor. “I have 16 vials left because I got pregnant the first time… the first try, the first insemination,” she shares. Her reason for wanting more? “I’m not ready for this stage of life to be over… The next time you have babies, it’s going to be your grandkids. I’m not ready to accept that.”

Between feedings and managing life with two under two, Kent’s keeping it refreshingly real about motherhood. Case in point: when faced with excess breast milk during a trip, she casually mentions, “I put it in my coffee and drank 10 ounces of breast milk this morning.” (Stars, they’re… actually not just like us on this one.)

Kent’s evolution is perhaps most evident in her approach to parenting expectations. “Motherhood is the only part of my life that I’ve been able to find the gray,” she reveals. “I’m so black or white in every aspect and it causes me so much anxiety. Motherhood is the one place where it’s like, whatever, fuck it.”

For Kent, motherhood isn’t about following conventional paths—it’s about creating your own. As she puts it about her daughters: “Ocean’s my golden child because she’s the firstborn… and Sosa is my dream baby. Where it was like, I wanted you for so long, and now you exist.”

In an industry where celebrity baby announcements typically come with partner reveals and perfectly staged photo shoots, Kent’s solo journey feels revolutionary. She’s not waiting for the right partner or the right time—she’s creating the family she wants, exactly how she wants it, while maintaining the independence she’s worked so hard to achieve.

And if anyone has doubts about her unconventional approach? To quote Kent herself: “Bye.”
