Lisa Rinna and Harry Hamlin’s approach to life is how they’re approaching their new podcast together: They have no agenda at all. The Hollywood power couple, married for 32 years, is launching their first podcast with Dear Media, marking a new chapter in their decades-long partnership. It’s the collab we’ve always wanted!
For Rinna, who has famously declined podcast appearances throughout her career, the decision to finally step into the medium wasn’t made lightly. “I’ve told everybody no, except for Teddy Mellencamp,” Rinna reveals, reflecting on years of turning down podcast opportunities. “I went and I did do her podcast, so she will have to come and do this one because I’ve told everybody no.” (She also explained this on a recent appearance on The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast.)
The couple’s dynamic is immediately apparent, with Hamlin’s thoughtful intellectualism complementing Rinna’s candid energy. Hamlin, at 70, brings a certain wisdom not typically found in the podcasting space, including his obsession for starting “the biggest fusion energy company in the world” in 1998 and selling pasta sauce.
Their chemistry, honed over three decades of marriage, is clearly the show’s secret weapon. “Lisa and I have a chemistry that’s come up in a lot of different places over the years,” Hamlin explains. “This would be a perfect way for us to get out and basically express ourselves through the relationship that we have.”
The podcast aims to cover everything from their experience raising “two kids who turned out to be wonderful human beings” (yes, they promise that Delilah and Amelia will most likely make an appearance on the pod) to Hamlin’s passion for fusion energy, all while maintaining an unscripted authenticity that has become increasingly rare in the digital age. Rinna emphasizes that their goal is simple: “If we just make somebody have a good day instead of a bad day, I think our podcast will be successful.”
In an era where many podcasts position their hosts as experts or gurus, Rinna and Hamlin just want to yap. As Hamlin quips, borrowing from Seinfeld, “It’s a show about nothing.” But perhaps that’s exactly what makes it something worth tuning into.
The Let’s Not Talk About the Husband podcast is out today, where they discuss Rinna’s departure from RHOBH and how the show impacted their lives. In Rinna’s words, “You might learn a thing or two, but you will laugh.”
On why they decided to start a podcast now
RINNA: “I think for me, podcasts had come up four years ago. It was during Covid. Somebody had talked to me about doing a podcast, and I was like, every housewife does a podcast. I just didn’t want to go down that road… I saw the media changing and how talk shows really aren’t happening. They used to be on television, on network television, or they’re really specific, and there’s not very much real estate. It’s pretty small. And I don’t know, I see this as the new talk format.”
On what makes their relationship work after 32 years
RINNA: “We’re completely opposite, and I just think that works. They say opposites attract. He has his strengths, and I have mine, and we put them together and we help each other with each other’s weaknesses… Something works. Something has kept us together. And in Hollywood, again, that’s like 150, 200 years.”
HAMLIN: “We behave well, and we respect each other. We honor each other and we listen to each other. And that’s kind of the bottom line. A lot of people go run off on their own agenda, and pretty soon they’re paying hundreds of thousands of dollars of divorce lawyers.”
On dealing with social media criticism
RINNA: “I’ve created this elephant skin that just kind of, there’s so much of it that you just kind of like whatever, whatever, whatever. But every once in a while, it will get me… I don’t self-reflect when a troll tells me to kill myself. No, I don’t. No. Should you?”
On what listeners can expect from the podcast
RINNA: “I am not a teacher. I am not a guru. I am not an expert, but I am human and I have lived a certain kind of life that people have an idea about. But I am just here to be me, and you can come on over and see what I have to say. But I am no expert, and I’m not here to make your life any better. I’m here to make you laugh and bring you joy.”
HAMLIN: “It’s a show about nothing.”
On their unique perspective as Hollywood veterans
HAMLIN: “Not only are we artists, we both have different things that we do. She has her fashion that she loves artistically. I have music that I play, and I have scripts that I write, and I have also lots of other things that I do artistically. So this is a good way to be able to express.”
