Meet the New Podcast from Les Alfred about Creating Your Own Luck

A rebrand, whether personal or professional, is nothing short of a journey. Les Alfred knows this firsthand. After nearly 300 episodes and 10 years, the host of what was formerly known as Balanced Black Girl is shifting her brand away from wellness-focused content

This week marks the official launch of She’s So Lucky, Alfred’s new show where she’ll peel back the curtain on entrepreneurship, women founders, and much more. The goal: highlight women who have created their own luck—from the wins and highs to the lessons learned along the way.

She’s bringing her 140,000+ Instagram followers (follow her here and here) along for the ride. She’s So Lucky will feature the same intentional storytelling but now focus on successful women who inspire Alfred, exploring the minds and habits that helped them chart their own paths.

Luck is more than coincidental—it requires grit, perseverance, and passion. Tune in for a weekly dose of the inspiration you need to create your own luck and live the love you want.

The evolution of a brand

The She’s So Lucky rebrand has been in the works for some time. One of Alfred’s first podcasts of 2025 explored what a personal rebrand looks like and how to accomplish it by adopting new habits. “I knew, at the time, that this rebrand of the podcast was coming,” Alfred says. “I knew that there were adjustments I wanted to make to my personal brand and how I show up.”

In 2024, Alfred analyzed her show’s metrics to identify which shows resonated with listeners. She  experimented with topics and reflecting on which conversations she enjoyed the most. This informed her decision to pivot the show’s theme toward content that better aligned with her evolving interests “We started expanding to talk about other things on the show: love, career, and lifestyle topics.”

Alfred found that listeners connected with personal accounts of women taking risks in their personal and professional lives. “I feel like it’s taking the conversations we’ve already been having on the podcast, breathing new life into it. It’s about entering this season of creating our own luck, and being the best, most lucky version of ourselves,” Alfred explains.

You can rebrand again

Few know this isn’t Alfred’s first pivot. Her initial podcast focused on finding balance in the wellness space. After outgrowing that brand, she launched Balanced Black Girl in 2018. Each episode of the show focused on a different wellness topic and highlighted a Black woman expert.

In the early days of Balanced Black Girl, Alfred received hundreds of pitches about heavy wellness topics and trauma. “In a lot of spaces, people equate Black women with trauma. They, and sometimes we, reduce ourselves to what we endure. But it can’t be the sum total of how we describe our experiences,” she says.

Around 2022, seeds for a second rebrand were sprouting: “I started experimenting with different content. I was probably 150 episodes deep into the Balanced Black Girl show, and I was ready to start exploring new topics. We had gone really deep in wellness, and a lot of the topics were heavy. It began to feel redundant to talk about the same things over and over.”

By 2023, Alfred gave herself permission to explore different topics, from love and relationships to intimacy and platonic love. Once she ventured into more lifestyle content, not only did she enjoy the work more, but the show gained more traction. “In October 2023, we had some of the highest-performing episodes this show has ever had. We continue to see more success when we focus on lifestyle things and on guests who are sharing their experiences and wisdom,” she shares.

A new focus

While everyone is welcome, Alfred wants to highlight the voices she’s most eager to learn from—Black women. “There is power in Black women talking about good things happening to us. I am personally most interested in hearing from marginalized women who’ve created their own luck. There is so much power in us talking about the good things in our lives,” she explains.

Don’t worry wellness lovers. The rebrand does not mean Alfred will never discuss wellness again—it just won’t be the focus of the conversation. “There is so much power in us talking about the good things that happen in our lives. Black women experience a lot of good things. I would like to have a space where we focus on the good things,” she says.

Alfred envisions a positive space where listeners apply what resonates. “Women sharing their authentic stories so that you can take a nugget of what inspires you and apply it to your own life – that is what really works for this format here. It’s something I’m excited to lean into,” she says.

The story behind the name

There’s power in a name. When making a personal or professional pivot, a name change is quintessential. Alfred was excited about the possibility of leaning into the newness of spring as a season of rebirth. For months, she brainstormed names for her show’s next chapter.

The word “lucky” kept recurring. She says, “It was something in the back of mind—wanting to channel more good luck energy, especially as I navigate the second year of entrepreneurship.”

One morning as she was journaling, Britney Spears’ Lucky was on replay in her mind. The creative spark ignited when the lyric “she’s so lucky” struck her. “All these ideas started to come to mind. I had an entire premise roll out about women creating their own luck and how everyday habits are the impetus to creating luck. I got a rush of creativity, and that was it. She’s So Lucky was born. I’m really excited to usher in this new season together.”
