However, not every single question you ask has to be about learning valuable information or educating your listeners. It’s important to ask fun and silly questions, too! 

Fun, silly, and weird questions are meant to get the gears turning, to break the ice, & get the conversation rolling. Plus, asking fun questions is one of the best ways to create a fun and relaxed environment for your interview to take place.

What is your favorite word? 

This question is awesome because it is truly a brain teaser. It’s the perfect question to get your guest’s gears turning and get them warmed up for the juicy questions later. 

How would you describe yourself in just one word?

Like the question above, this question is also great for getting those gears turning. It’s also one of those questions that helps listeners get to know your guest a little better. 

What are you most excited about right now? 

Ask this question to get your guest talking about their current goals! By sharing what they’re most excited about, your guest can give listeners the inside scoop on what they’re currently working on.

What do people misunderstand about you the most?

This is SUCH a fun question for guests that might be facing a little backlash from the media. It’s the perfect opportunity for your guest to clarify any misconceptions about their brand, attitude, a past occurrence, or any other shade they’ve been receiving. 

How would your parents describe what you do?

Parents…amiright? Asking this question is a great way to learn more about what your guest does for a living and what life might have been like growing up. This is an especially good question for bloggers, podcasters, influencers, or people with jobs that those boomers don’t quite understand. 

What is your star sign?

Each star sign has a couple characteristics that tend to kind-of describe the personality traits of individual people. So, who wouldn’t want to know the star sign of the person they’re listening to? Feel free to share yours, too! 

Where did you grow up?

Knowing where someone grew up can tell you a lot about a person. Ask your guest to share where they grew up & if they learned anything from their home situation as they aged. A question like this usually leads into a much broader discussion. 

What was your dream job as a child? 

Is your guest doing what they always thought they would do? Or, did their plans shift along the way? This question is a fantastic segway into talking about your guest’s career. What is your absolute favorite childhood memory?

Our favorite memories can give listeners insight into who we really are. Try sharing your own favorite memory and then asking your guest to do the same!

What is your biggest pet peeve?

Pet peeves are usually super hilarious and unique to each and every person you ask. Ask this question to learn a bit more about your guest and to get their gears turning for more important questions later. 

What is the #1 quality you look for in a friend?

What we look for in a ride or die best friend says a lot about who we are as a person. Find out what your guest considers the #1 trait to look for in a friend for an inside look at their values and morals. 

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received?

Questions like this one can really get your guest thinking deeply. And, the answers are usually super heartfelt and give an inside look at what matters most to your guest. 

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Get those thoughts flowing by asking your guest to share the best piece of advice they’ve ever been given. A great follow up question after asking this one is: How has this advice helped you throughout your life? 

What is your ultimate life motto? 

What phrase or motto does your guest live by? And, how has this motto shaped who they are today? Questions like this one are a great way to get to know your guest better and see what motivates them. 

Would you consider yourself a hunter or a gatherer?

Okay – this question might seem a little silly, but it can really give listeners insight into your guest’s personality. It’s also a great question to ask to get an inside look at your guest’s problem solving skills. Hunters tend to be strong, individualistic leaders whereas gatherers tend to be relaxed and laid-back. Which is your guest? 

If you could be any fictional character, who would it be and why? 

This is SUCH a fun question! Not only does this give listeners insight about your guests personality, but it also gives your guest the opportunity to share their favorite book or movie character with listeners. How relatable? 

What is the biggest myth or stereotype surrounding your job or industry?

Asking this question gives your guest the perfect opportunity to clarify any misconceptions, myths, or stereotypes surrounding their job. Sometimes, this is super important to get those listeners hooked. 

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

Everyone can relate to this question! Try sharing your preference and then asking your guest to do the same. Plus, this is a super easy question to help get you and your guest warmed up & those thoughts flowing. Are you an introvert or extrovert?

Like the previous question, this a super easy and relatable question to help get those gears turning. Plus, being an introvert or an extrovert says a lot about a person’s personality and character. 

If you could grab a drink with anyone in the world, who would it be? 

There is no better way to learn more about who inspires your guest than to ask this question. Be sure to clarify that this person could be absolutely anyone – modern or historical. 

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

This is another one of those questions that can tell you a lot about your guest. Do they love warm or cold weather? Mountains or the beach? Urban or rural areas? This answer will differ with each and every guest. 

What is your weirdest habit? 

Just reading this question already makes us want to chuckle. Ask this question to break the ice & and get those creative juices flowing. If your guest is feeling a little shy, start by answering this question yourself. 

What do you do to de-stress & relax?

Each and every person has their own way of unwinding and relaxing at the end of a long day. Ask your guest to share their methods and then share your own. You never know who needs to hear this type of advice and how your guest’s answer to this question might inspire others. Which Hogwarts House do you most identify with?

But – seriously…who doesn’t love Harry Potter? What house your guest identities with can tell you a TON about their character. Gryffindors are courageous, Ravenclaws are wise, and so on! Which house or houses does your guest most identify with? 

What is your spirit animal and why?

This is a super fun question to help break the ice and get the conversion rolling. Start by sharing your spirit animal and then ask your guest to share theirs. This is one of those questions where the answers are almost always super hilarious. 

How do you balance work life and home life?

Separating work life and home life is a super important part of living a happy and healthy life. Asking your guest to share their methods is a great way to get those gears turning and maybe even inspire your listeners (or yourself!) to take charge of their life. 

If you could be remembered for one thing, what would it be?

This is one of those questions that can really get your episode rolling. This question gives your guest the opportunity to open up about their life goals and what they hope to accomplish in the long run. 

Is there a question that I should have asked you in this interview? 

This is always a fun question! While you may have taken plenty of time to come up with what you think are the best podcast questions to ask in an interview, you might have missed a question that was super important to your guest. This question gives them the opportunity to answer the question that means the most to them. 

Is there anything that you’d really love to share with listeners today?

Like the previous question, this is a fun question to ask your guest that gives them the opportunity to take control of the interview and share their message. This is the perfect question to ask at the very beginning of your interview to kind-of kick things off in the right direction. 

Where can listeners find you?

And last, but certainly not least, be sure to ask your guest to share where listeners can find them. This could be their website, their social media handles, their merch…anything! While you might not categorize this question as “fun”, it’s a super important question that can lead to a variety of other, more fun topics. 

Don’t be afraid to answer some funny interview questions yourself! 

Answering some silly questions yourself will make your guest feel more comfortable, more willing to answer more questions themselves, and more likely to really open up and share. This is a great tip to keep in mind as you begin to host more and more interviews.
