If you’re a fan of comedy-dramas packed with dark humor, jaw-dropping plot twists, and pull-on-your-heartstrings conversations, we have no doubt you’ve already seen Shameless. It was one of the longest running family dramedies in the United States for a reason. It’s truly one of a kind.
But, as Shameless reached its final season and we said goodbye to the messy and chaotic Gallaghers, we’ve all been left with a big hole in our hearts. Of course, we listened to “Steve Howey on Sex Scenes, Manifesting, and Parenting” on Not Skinny But Not Fat talk about his time playing Kevin Ball. What do we watch now that has that same “no-filter” vibe? If you weren’t ready to say goodbye to that raw and unapologetic energy just yet, we’ve got good news.

What Is the TV Show Shameless About?
Shameless is an uncensored rollercoaster that follows the Gallagher family as they struggle through addiction, poverty, and unconventional loyalty. Set in the south side of Chicago, Frank Gallagher (played by the iconic William H. Macy) is a selfish alcoholic father of six: Fiona, Debbie, Carl, Liam, Ian, and Phillip (Lip) but he’s no role model father at all. With Frank either knee-deep in his addiction or out somewhere causing chaos, Fiona (the oldest daughter) is left to basically raise her siblings by herself.
Fiona’s not entirely alone, though. She’s got her ride-or-die neighbors, Veronica (V) and her boyfriend, Kevin. But, even with a support system, life is still full of challenges. Each sibling has their own struggles to deal with, from addiction and criminal activity to failed relationships and mental health.
At the end of the day, one thing’s clear: the Gallaghers’ loyalty is unmatched. They’ll always show up for each other even if it means committing insurance fraud or digging up bodies (hey, loyalty looks different for everyone, right?!).
Fans love Shameless because it’s REAL. Raw, gritty, and unapologetically honest. There’s something everyone can relate to: life can get sh*tty, but there’s always hope, love, and laughter somewhere on the other side.
Looking for something that gives you all those same feels? We’ve got you covered. Let’s look at some TV shows that remind us of those chaotic (but lovable) Gallaghers.

Shows Related to Shameless?
As of 2026, there are no official Shameless spin-offs. We’re talking about full-length series that dive deep into the Gallagher lives post-chaos. There IS, however, a 6-episode miniseries, Shameless Hall of Shame, that premiered during the 11th season. It blends new scenes with old footage, providing a more general perspective of the characters lives.
Ultimately, all the cast members have moved onto different movies, TV shows, and media projects. So as much as we hope for a Shameless spin-off in the future, it’s just wishful thinking right now.
What to Watch After Shameless?
Craving more of your favorite dysfunctional family? We get it—that’s literally why we created this post. There are SO many shows like Shameless, and they offer the same blend of infuriating drama, heartbreaking family toxicity, and “us over everything” mentality. We’ll provide all of the details below.
But you don’t have to just watch shows like Shameless—you can listen to podcast episodes about similar content, too! Let’s be real, a lot of us like the series because we relate to it in some way. And instead of confronting those feelings, we just watch series that make us feel like, “Wow, I’m not alone in my experiences.” Totally valid—but so many podcast hosts offer actionable advice that can help you feel seen, heard, and understood. What Shows Are Like Shameless?
Shameless (UK Version)
Where to watch: Hulu, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video
We couldn’t start this list without giving a nod to the OG Shameless that premiered in the UK years before the US version made its debut. As you probably expected, this series looks at the Gallaghers’ dysfunctional lives as they deal with all of life’s challenges.
While they are two sides of the same coin, Shameless UK is its own unique series. There are different plots, themes, and, of course, settings. With endless back-and-forths from fans trying to decide which version is the best, you’ll have to watch the UK version to decide for yourself.
The Bear
Where to watch: Hulu, Disney+
If you want more Jeremy Allen White (Lip from Shameless), then The Bear is a must-see. Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto was a young and upcoming chef in one of the world’s most prestigious restaurants. That was until his brother suddenly passed away, and he had to head back to Chicago to run his family’s failing sandwich shop. Not only is this a huge setback, but he’s also forced to face some old demons.
Just imagine it as an alternative universe where Lip ventured out of the south side to become a young and successful chef but still deals with the same hectic family life. It has all the dark humor, fierce loyalty, and tense moments you saw Lip dish out in Shameless. Oh, and with the FINAL season of The Bear available to watch now, you’ll want to tune in.

Weeds
Where to watch: Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video
If Shameless drew you in with humor and dark themes, Weeds will keep you just as hooked. This show follows Nancy Botwin, a suburban widow who decides to start selling marijuana to keep her family afloat and maintain her privileged lifestyle.
Even though this endeavor started as something she did as a side gig for close friends and acquaintances, it quickly became her full-time job. This series is edgy and funny, and it gives off that same messy but lovable family vibe we miss from Shameless.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Where to Watch: Hulu, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV
Here’s a dark comedy series you don’t want to miss! When you’re craving twisted relationships and quick-paced dramatic storylines, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia hits that sweet spot. This series follows a group of self-absorbed friends as they run an Irish bar, “Paddy’s Pub,” in Philadelphia.
But, to keep Paddy’s Pub in business, this friend group has to do some serious scheming to make their money’s worth. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, your jaw will drop ya know, everything you wanna experience with a sitcom. Plus, it’s now the longest running live action sitcom, so you know it’s got to be good!
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Where to Watch: HBO Max, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV
If you’re a fan of the way Frank Gallagher was able to find humor in socially awkward (or even straight-up cringy) moments, you’ll LOVE Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm. Larry plays a fictionalized version of himself as a semi-retired TV writer and producer who, unfortunately, has no social awareness or filter.
While this series isn’t focused on family like Shameless, it does share that same boundary-pushing comedic aspect that we know and love.

Skins
Where to Watch: Hulu, Disney+, Apple TV
Shameless is so relatable because of its uncensored portrayal of chaos, and Skins gained popularity for that exact reason. Set in working-class Bristol, this series follows a group of teens navigating those trying teenage years. But we’re not talking about sneaking out and staying up late… We’re talking about love, drugs, and rebellion.
It tackles genuine topics that some TV shows will skip right over, like mental health, addiction, and family trauma. Hmmm, sound familiar? Not only is it authentic, but it’s also super emotional and thought-provoking. You’ll be obsessed as soon as the first episode.
Euphoria
Where to Watch: HBO Max, Hulu, Apple TV
Euphoria is like the modern, trendy version of Shameless, minus the whole older sister having to raise her siblings thing. Both shows give us a real, unfiltered view of drug addiction and how it impacts the people around.
Rue is a high school student who, after tragically losing her father, turns to drugs to cope. She’s got a whole team behind her leading her to recovery (along with a handful of friends dealing with their own love-triangles and criminal endeavors), but does she even want to get better? Guess you gotta watch to find out!

The Righteous Gemstones
Where to Watch: HBO Max, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV
If you fell in love with Shameless because of the Gallagher’s deeply flawed but somehow still loveable dynamic? Then you’ll definitely find comfort in the Gemstones. Centered around a corrupt and wealthy family running a megachurch, The Righteous Gemstones is packed full of dark humor, scandalous situations, and characters who will do anything to maintain their power.
Good Girls
Where to Watch: Netflix, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video
Three suburban moms who break out of their normal, dare we say, boring lives to step into the life of crime? Yeah, sign us up. Good Girls has that perfect blend of comedy and drama in a way that we thought only Shameless was capable of.
With the main characters making questionable decisions and reaping what they sow, you’ll almost feel like their characters and storyline came straight out of “Shameless.” It’s full of heart, humor, and lots of tension.
Eastbound & Down
Where to Watch: HBO Max, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV
After former professional baseball pitcher Kenny Powers got wrapped up in stardom and fame, his ego got the best of him. From drug use and self-destruction ive to redemption and family, Kenny has to figure out who he truly is outside of baseball.
Like Frank, Kenny in Eastbound & Down is a character you can’t help but love… somehow. We imagine that in another life, Frank and Kenny are definitely besties. Speaking of men being vulnerable, check out this episode of Beyond The Mat for a much bigger, important discussion about this topic (that’s actually super important, all jokes aside).
Ozark
Where to watch: Netflix
Ozark, a crime-thriller, follows Marty Byrde, a Chicago financial advisor who puts himself (and his family) in a tough spot. After a money laundering scheme, has to relocate to Missouri, Ozark, where he promises to launder $500 million in five years. ($100 million per year? Sounds a liiiitle intimidating.)
Like Shameless, Ozark features a family-led survival story. The family is close and tight-knit, but their main goals are staying out of trouble, danger, and, most importantly, prison. Both series involve the main characters taking extreme measures to fix the mistakes they made.
Breaking Bad
Where to watch: Netflix, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video
Walter White is a struggling high school chemistry teacher who was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. But treatment is expensive, so Walter thinks “Why not risk it all?” To secure his and his family’s future, he partners with a former student to produce and sell methamphetamine—and we’re sure you can guess how that goes.
Breaking Bad gives all the Shameless vibes with its messy antiheroes and chaotic, unethical storylines. The Gallaghers make selfish, often dangerous choices, and Walter White follows in those same footsteps with his DIY meth lab. It’s the exact series you need after binge-watching Shameless for the 10th time.
United States of Tara
Where to watch: Hulu, Paramount+, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video
United States of Tara is a dark comedy-drama that follows Tara Gregson, a suburban artist and mother living with dissociative identity disorder (DID). Tara and her family have to navigate her alternating personalities, which include T (a provocative teen), Buck (a Vietnam War veteran), and Alice (a 1950s style homemaker). Naturally, it’s… chaotic.
Like Shameless, United States of Tara is equal parts intriguing and heartbreaking. Both series feature chaotic family dynamics, addiction, unpredictable storylines, and severe mental health battles. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll somehow relate way more than you expected to.
Six Feet Under
Where to watch: HBO Max, Hulu, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video
Six Feet Under is a dark-comedy that follows the Fisher family, owners of an independent Los Angeles funeral home. Oh, did we mention that each episode tends to open with a new death? Naturally. While this may sound bleak, the series is surprisingly heartfelt. Beneath its dry humor and unconventional storytelling, the series explores grief, family dynamics, love, and identity.
Like Shameless, Six Feet Under features a dysfunctional family, intense, interconnected storylines, and generational trauma. Both kids in both series feel like they have to create a future that doesn’t reflect their parents’ mistakes, and it pulls us in every time.
Succession
Where to watch: HBO Max, Hulu, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video
Succession is a comedy-drama that follows the Roy family, wealthy owners of a global media and entertainment conglomerate: Waystar RoyCo. However, there’s four kids and one father—and there can only be one head of the company. Underneath the hilarious dynamics and chaotic storylines, the series follows themes like control, parent approval, trauma, and insecurity.
Sound familiar? Similar to Shameless, Succession focuses on the deep dysfunction of intertwined families, a manipulative parental figure, and children who are just trying to make it out. Like we’ve said with plenty of other series, it feels equal parts addictive and relatable.
Is Shameless a Good Series?
Shameless is absolutely a good series if you’re looking for a show that’s equal parts hilarious, heartbreaking, and completely unfiltered. Shameless follows the wildly dysfunctional Gallagher family as they navigate poverty, addiction, complicated relationships, and the chaos of everyday life on Chicago’s South Side. Every episode somehow manages to balance outrageous comedy with surprisingly emotional moments, making it one of those rare series that can have you laughing one minute and tearing up the next.
Part of what makes Shameless so binge-worthy is its unforgettable cast of characters. Fiona Gallagher becomes the family’s reluctant caretaker, Frank is one of TV’s most outrageous antiheroes, and every sibling presents their own storylines, relationships, and personal growth throughout the series 11-season run. Watching the Gallaghers evolve, and occasionally self-destruct, is a big reason fans stick around for so long. (AKA, til the end.)
That said, Shameless isn’t for every viewers. The series is unapologetically explicit, featuring mature themes, strong language, substance abuse, violence, and plenty of morally questionable decisions. But if you’re comfortable with dark humor and flawed characters, it’s easy to understand why Shameless is consistently recommended as one of the best comedy-drama series.
Which one of these series are you binge-watching when you want that edgy and dysfunctional “Shameless” vibe?
As much as we love Frank’s hit-or-miss humor and Fiona’s badass women-empowered attitude, we can only rewatch Shameless so many times before we want something new. You probably thought you’d never find a show to compare, but that was before we came to save the day with a whole list of series that will fill that Gallagher-shaped hole in your heart.
