You work hard for your content, but is your content working hard for you? Here’s the truth: If you make a great podcast episode and simply upload it to Spotify or Apple Podcasts and wait, nothing will happen. Very few, if any, people will stumble upon your work, and there’s little to no chance of it spiraling into a wild success.
To grow your podcast, you need to market it. And, yes, we know what you’re thinking: I don’t have time for more work! But what if you don’t have to create new content for every Twitter post, Instagram reel, and blog article? We’re about to show you how to work smarter, not harder, when it comes to content creation.
Rather than overworking yourself with one-and-done content, you can repurpose your podcast episodes into lots of additional, low-effort content. Then, with this extra material, you can post on more platforms to find your audience and build your listenership. Talk about saving some precious time and effort, right? Here’s how:
If you have a podcast, you should definitely have a website, and on that website, you should have a blog! Google and other search engines prefer authentic long-form content, so their respective algorithms will prioritize this type of work at the top of the search engine results pages. What is your podcast other than authentic long-form content, right?
The problem is: Google can’t pull audio. This means even if your podcast is perfectly in line with the content a user is searching for, the search engine won’t find it. To solve this problem, you should transcribe your podcast and edit it to be the perfect, SEO-friendly blog post.
Then, people can organically find your written content, your website, and your podcast! Turning your podcast episode into a blog post is one of the easiest ways you can repurpose your content! Now, on to the next way!
Listeners love to stay in the loop, which is why as a podcaster, it is highly recommended to have an email list that your listeners can sign up for. Once listeners sign up for your newsletter, you’ve not only established a personal connection with your listener, but you now have an avenue of communication to tell your listeners all about your podcast, your favorite products, your merch, your affiliate links, and more.
Instead of racking your brain to come up with fresh, new content for your newsletter every single week, you can totally repurpose your transcribed podcast content. In fact, this is a great way to catch your listeners up by providing a summary of the most important points from your recent podcasts.
Once you have the blog post(s) or email newsletters written, you then have tons of fuel for short social media posts. Whether it is a quote, a statistic, or an interesting fact you can pull from your blog, you can turn these transcribed soundbites into graphics or text posts. Now all you have to do is share these posts with the world and get others interested in hearing the full context on your podcast.
If you are already recording your podcast audio, you might as well record the video content as well. You’ll need to do a little work to make your studio look nice and we won’t discount the added measure of video editing, but otherwise, it’s as simple as setting up a good-quality camera. Then, you can post the video to YouTube to reach an even larger audience.
Once you have some video content, you can easily slice it up for content on all social media platforms. Take small soundbites and upload them to Facebook, Insta, and TikTok reels! These soundbites should hook your listeners and carry them to your podcast.
In your podcast show notes, include links to all your social channels – and vice versa. And, if you ever do Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook live, you can repurpose soundbites from those as well! Upload the audio afterward to your podcast channels, as well as your other social media platforms. You can even upload the video portion to YouTube. All of this content works together to promote your show.
Gifs and memes go viral, and they show a layer of authenticity and humility that people love. Even more, if a meme from the show is funny or wild, it’ll make people want to figure out its origins. If something ridiculous happens that’ll make people laugh, definitely make it into a meme or gif. Then, post these on all your platforms to be shared (and enjoyed!) with the world.
Did the podcast episode spur a question? Or, maybe it inspired an action? If it did, take that question or call-to-action and post in on your socials. A question-and-answer post or graphic stirs up a lot of interaction, which puts a lot of eyes on your content. Make sure to always link back to your episode, but definitely post these thought-provoking moments on socials.
Do you have a ton of people review your podcasts? Good reviews are easy marketing tools! Simply copy and paste your review if you want, or make an eye-catching graphic to go along with it. Repurposing your podcast this way not only convinces people you have a cool podcast, it lets them know people LOVE it.
See how easy that was? Repurposing your podcast content is the best and easiest way to grow your audience. With just a couple hours a week, you can curate a ton of content for your social channels and website. As you grow in popularity on other platforms, more people will find and listen to your podcast! Even more, you’ll develop credibility, meet other podcast hosts, and increase your overall organic reach. So work smarter not harder, and start getting the most out of your content.
